Fitted some Distinctive Scarlet Oak in may to lounge/diner/kitchen/utility in May. The customer rang me a few weeks ago saying it has loads of tiny scratches and is scratching quite easily so i said obviously a care routine need to be in place as its only plastic and not industructable e.g shoes/trainers can have grit stuck in the soles, pads on furniture etc. Also put him on to a guy who cleans and seals LVT floors. He's been back in contact and told me he's been in touch with Distinctive and has put a complaint in. They've told him to get back in touch with me to have a look to see if its a product fault or lack of care. They also told him about doctor Schultz floor care too. Have you any suggestions before i go back and have a look. I'm thinking also its possible for rotary brushes on a vacuum cleaner to scratch the floor if they use one.
You need to have a look it first Dave You know as we all do LVT can be scratched but at the end of the day its a floor & will get walked on just depends on how bad it is or is your costomer being over observant ? Hands & knees jobby ? Also I do think Distinctive have an obligation to send someone to assess it for them self as most other LVT co's would ?
Over observant i think. He's a bit of an old woman. He was never happy with the Karndean knight tile originally in the kitchen. It wasn't that bad to be honest.
We sell maintenance kits with a maintainer, polish and stripper, pads etc, should really be sold on every job. Dark woods show scratches a lot quicker than mid or light.
Even so Adam it should still put up with a certain amount of abuse and if a kit should be sold with every job why don't they ask if you want one every time an orders placed. Never once have i been asked by sales if i want one like karndean or Pennine do when I'm placing an order. Plus I always do give the customer the option of a kit or there's a guy locally who cleans/strips/protects lvt floors and i always suggest that they contact him. He's done quite a few of my jobs. Ridiculous answer Dave to be honest, it's up to you to sell kits not the sales office.......your mate who does the sealing, whys he do that if there's no reason to protect the floor? About a year ago, a client of mine put over 510sq of scarlet oak in a school with the use of kits, so impressed the whole school will now be done in it, not all at once but it will all be done at some point. You understand that darker woods will show scratches quicker regardless of which make of lvt. You got any pics? Any reason for these scratches? Moved furniture ? Etc
I did say at the end though he was offered a kit or to contact the guy who seals them at the start of the job. Not everyone does seal their floor as they want to get furniture in as quick as possible. you can only tell them about the products, not force them to use them. Also the job is not finished as the hallway needs to be fitted yet. Haven't seen the scratches as of yet so no pics or reasons.

As with any Lvt care must be taking with footwear as you can drag grit in the soles. Our one is from dr Shultz, not re branded either. Fair point IMO if you've offered it them you've done the right thing.
