Hiya folks. 1st post so a big Hello I'm nearing completion of my 2nd renovation. This has been a complete back to brick renovation new everything except the shell. We've just been to look at carpet and despite thinking we knew exactly what we wanted to put in the sales guy wanted us to put in some Aim high carpet which was £5.99 Sqm but would do for £4.99 Sqm if we put it throughout. I' not after price comparisons, I only mention it so you guys may know which one i is. In cream it doesnt look too bad but does remind me of a council flat. In darker colour you can see through to the backing. Has anyone here fitted out a recent renovation. We were thinking a dark Stripey carpet in the Hall stairs and Landing and then either a light grey or a dark grey (although that may make the space seem small) or a browny cream (beige) The aim high stuff will be just over £900 fitted with 7mm underlay. The other option will be £5 Sqm more adding £450 to the bill. What I don't want is the carpet to detract from the overall finish Any ideas Matt
Hi and welcome to the forum. Im not going to beat around the bush here.............. you would be better of gluing toilet paper to the floor. You have already pointed out that you can see the backing and it looks cheap. Either you have to accept its crap and looks like crap or pay more money. Be prepared in 6 months time to replace it also so take that into the equitation . Personllay i think you need to be spending £15 quid + a meter to get anything half decent. (underlay , fitting etc on top) Your call tho, as above you can see the £5 quid a meter stuff is only good for a garden shed.
Cheers Matt We are selling the house so don't want to go over the top. But equally don't want it to look like a council flat. We need someone to walk in and say I wan that house. Rather than shame about the carpet. However its not a footballers house either. It's in the 2nd tier category maybe even top of the first time buyer market. Any thoughts on colours
Ummm.... problem you have is most will change the carpets after they move in anyway so ye it could be wasted money paying for better. But we are stuck on first looks and yes the carpet will let you down. (even tho it will be changed by new owner most of the time) Im sure the carpet will look great for the first few weeks to the average person, if it takes anymore than a few weeks to sell tho, well the carpet will start to look crap. However, lets say you have potential buyers in the first week. All potential buyers are different, if it was me entering your house i will be the first to look at the flooring (obviously) and then i will go around looking at the quality of fixture and fittings. If they look cheap i will dismiss your house as i will be thinking "if they wont spend on decent tap's for the kitchen, a cheap towel rail, cheap flooring etc, then just what else is cheap in this house thats hidden? " You will im sure get others come in that will look and think "this place looks nice and new, lets buy it" . Difficult one. Personally i would push teh budget a bit more, yes it might cost you £500 quid more to put something half decent in there, but £500 quid more is better than being knocked down £5000 quid by someone who is trying to take in allowance for other 'cheap' fittings that will soon need replacing. If you get it wright in the first place, well what grounds can they knock you down on other than playing their luck?
As for colours, - white / cream ! totally unpractical but always makes a house look clean. Hence show houses always go with light colours.
Hey I put some in my chicken hut and it kept their feet dry in the winter, no complaints from them....
How much will the house be selling for. Ie cheap flooring in a -£100k house Ok Cheap flooring in a £300k house is a big no. As already said above, cheap mean exactly that CHEAP. How many Sq mtrs is the property ??
Thanks for the replies. Hoping for £160k but will take 1st decent offer above £150. Got my eye on another house. Mortgage is near as dammit £500 per month. So were hoping for a quick sale. Hall stairs landing 20sqm Lounge and dining room 31sqm Bedrooms 36Sqm
You could always find your nearest Ryalux stockist and ask them if they could do you a deal on any stock clearance they might have. You can pick up some cracking quality carpet at a reduced price. They tend to be excess stock or cancelled orders etc
Just tidy the floor up and move on, spend as little as possibly but get the best 'look' you can for no money, whoever buys it will rip it up and re do it anyway. Maybe do a deal with the retailer and say your leave their details in the home so if they decide to re do the flooring, the retailer will get another job out of it (hopefully.)
I am also looking for a carpet to install in my home living room.. Can anyone please suggest me, which carpet should I prefer for the home use?? Me and my wife are thinking of Wool Carpet .. But, I also want to know others opinion..
Most of us here are more than happy to advise you and any member of the public, but your question is very broad, its like asking what car should I buy. What carpet you should buy will depend on many factors, such as lifestyle, how many in the household, what age ranges, pets, is the house empty most of the day, or indeed do you work from home. Personal preference for plain/patterent, short/long pile and colour preference, light, dark, paste or bold colours. Lets not forget budget, carpets can range in price from £2.00 up to and beyond £100.00 a ssqmt. Not including any underlay (of which there's range of qualities and prices) If you go to a reputable retailer and get an idea of what you would like please come back to us and we would be happy to advise.
Alot of people are happy to come to the conclusion that the underlay is "fine" which we all no is not often the case and people think your just trying to add/make money on to the final quote.
