Hi Everyone, Hope you can help please with a huge problem I have. We own a family commercial cleaning business and one of our clients (a working men's club) had a new carpet laid around Christmas last year. Within a month or so three lines appeared which run right up to the join in the carpet. I've attached a photograph to show this. The club management said that this was damage caused by a trolley with rubber wheels. I reported this to my insurers who sent in a loss adjuster who said it was nothing to do with the trolley and refused to pay. The adjuster said it could have been a roll end or the marks were made by how the carpet was taped. I have absolutely no idea having never seen marks like these before. Can anyone please shed some light on what or how the marks were made please?
I'm not a carpet man by any stretch of the imagination, but surely if it was the trolley the problem would be all everywhere the trolley has been wheeled? Also, the problem doesn't look to only be wheel tracks, there are some large areas of discolouration and what appears to be a flattening of the pile. This is an isolated localised incident. Can I ask where/what do those doors lead to?
Hi thanks for the replies. We put the trolley there to show the type of trolley we use. It's a plastic type and carries a dolly mop and bucket, toilet rolls, cleaning cloths and a couple of trigger sprays etc. The marks are only where photographed but the trolley goes to several places around the club. The cleaning cupboard where the trolley comes from is about 20 feet away and there are no 'tracks' from there or any more like it if that's what you're thinking. If the trolley were marks from being left for a while there'd be 'dimples' where the wheels are, not tracks. The doors are to the toilets at the back of the lounge in the club. The wheel width doesn't line up with the marks and there are three marks all spaced at similar distances.
What im saying is you can see marks in line with the trolley wheel in that actual picture. Ive not seen the whole lot, just going by that picture. It looks like the trolley is causing them marks....what else could it be, is it a coincidence that the marks line up with the wheels?? Ive seen it before where the poor installation on the double stick method where the subbys we were working with allowed someone to wheel a trolley straight over the carpet before the tackifier (used to stick the duralay) had completely dried and caused the carpet to stress/buckle under the trolley wheels like a wave when they went across it. That alone caused quite a stress mark on the fresh carpet itself.
Hi Paul, I'm also in the carpet cleaning business and have seen this before. The carpet is low quality and that's why these lines appeared. It can happen from heavy objects (not necessary a trolley).
If it was the trolley, the lines would continue past the seam in the carpet, can't tell from the photographs how far the lines continue for, if it's 4m, it would suggest the end of the roll or the start of the roll was damaged. Can you feel anything under the carpet, damaged floor, rucked up underlay or is it purely on the pile of the carpet? first impressions I'd have said it was following an imperfection under the carpet.
