Hi, Just looking for a bit of advice on LVT from people far more in the know than I am. We are buying a new build house and want to get LVT flooring installed to the ground floor that is 42m sq and has underfloor heating. The developer can supply flooring from howdens on request at a VAT free price but obviously price is limited as the only LVT we like from there is QuikStep Livyn Click. Having spoken to a few shops today, nearly all of them advised to go with a glue down floor but I understand this is going to be a fair bit more expensive due to the screeding. My worry with the flooring being laid through the developer is that it's going to be done by a tradesman that happens to be on site on the day rather than a proper fitter. I've been recommended the Amtico Spacia, Moduleo and Camaro - Ideally I want to keep the cost below £2500. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks Chris
Hi there..... Firstly for a glue down product you need to check if it’s concrete or gyvlon/anhydride. A damp test needs to see if the slab is dry enough..... and go from there Also you need to use a good quality levelling compound if the floor is damp then a surface dpm is required if it’s concrete or wait until it’s dry. For your click option I’d still self level the floor and then fit but quickstep Lyvn is one of the better clicks which apparently is good with UFH
Quickstep clic is the only clic I would fit if you are going down that route. Make sure all the skirtings are off as floating floor needs expansion. All the other products you’ve mentioned are pretty good but I wouldn’t let the developer fit it. What ever you like in Quickstep clic they will also do in a dry back version you can stick down. If its done via the developer it will be done via a proper flooring firm and not by a chippy or sparks etc, they subcontract the floor work out
Thanks for the info, it's really useful. A couple of local fitters have said to me that a click flooring would be better as it allows the flooring to be re used if it had to be taken up to get to the underfloor heating. Any opposing views to this? Also, would the floor need screeding if it was a click flooring or would just underlay be ok? never realised what a minefield choosing a flooring is!!
If going a click and Uubder floor heating look at quickstep Livyn as that’s the best click on the market.
Moduleo clic isn’t very good. It will fail over ufh unless you stick it down or put it on adhesive underlay Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Great, we are leaning towards this rather than glue down. Will 3-4mm underlay be ok rather than having to screed as well?
Depends on the subfloor. If it’s a liquid cement it’s possible. A normal builders screed probably not. Your vinyl floor will only look as good as your subfloor. Clic is more forgiving than stickdown but still shows dips and high spots Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Most click underlays are 1.50mm or thinner, anything thicker hasn’t got the compression strength it needs to ensure your click lvt stays where it should.
Have you ever had any trouble with Livyn used on Timbertex 2mm laminate underlay. I have a few complaints were the joints have curled up badly. It almost looks like the wear layer has shrunk and pulled up the edges. Quickstep have blamed the underlay but have given me no reason how this could have caused it.
Can’t put click on laminate underlay. Puts the joins under too much stress. Needs to be flat as a pancake with little or no movement really Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Each lvt supplier recommends their own underlay as they have been specially developed to work with the product.
