Have been an installer for 31 years now, I took and passed all 5 NICF Master Fitter Exams in 2007-2009, stopped paying my subscription in 2004 as I was too busy to do fit only work. Just re-applied and after checking with the NICF President have been informed they're no longer valid and I would need to do them again!

I paid around £750 for the exams plus 5 days off of work and a 200 mile round trip to the FITA centre on each visit so am really disappointed to treated like this. It appears if you have a break from you're no longer qualified. I was proud to be an NICF Master Fitter and the achievement of passing all five so this feels like a kick in the teeth.

My school GCSE's, driving licence and trade NVQ's qualifications are apparently still valid which is a relief, :(WTF !!

That’s not very good is it. It’s a shame they are looking to charge you for the whole thing again. Not very fair in my opinion

How did you take your exams after you’d stopped paying the subscription?

Same as spacey. You pay a small fee once a year.

Do you pay an annual fee at Floorskills to be a master fitter?

That's like winning an Olympic medal but if you want to keep it you have to pay every year A small fee to keep it ??? Nar once you've done it it should be yours for life

I disagree, you should need to keep up your CPD and re-take it every few years the payment is meh but things change and bad habits creep in over time.

Interesting you say about keeping your CPD up to date. So if Dave has kept himself up to date with courses else where let's say Quickstep laminate, Floorskills Commercial Vinyl course etc, would you class that as keeping your CPD up to date and this will qualify to not doing the tests again?

Should have a practical test of his work just to make sure it’s all done correctly but absolutely that should do. My main problem with NICF master fitter is it means bollocks all, your higher quality manufacturers should be pushing for one to be used for warranty on their products.
