Right folks I would appreciate it if you could give me some advice on LVT flooring prep, but before I start I am “Time Rich – Money Poor” or alternatively known as being a “Yorkshireman” so I am looking at doing all the work myself.

We are having retrofit underfloor heating fitted to our downstairs hallway, living room, dining kitchen (with set of small South facing bifold doors).

Floor is a suspended floor that has been insulated between joists with 75mm of Celotex and then overlaid with Caberfloor 22mm P5 Moisture Resistant T & G Chipboard Flooring. Secured with Caberfix D4 Glue and Spax flooring screws.

The UFH is a wet system “Variotherm” with piping laid in Fermacell Gypsum Fibre panels and then filled with the Variotherm Filling compound (Calcium Sulphate).

I obviously know that the surface that the LVT goes on has to be FLAT, but it is the prep of the Calcium Sulphate filling compound and self-levelling compound (if required) to accept the adhesive that I am interested in. Basically, does it need any special formulation on it?

Also whilst fitting what does the UFH temp need to sit at?

I had thought of a straight cheat of using the LVT Pro adhesive topped underlay (from softlay.co uk) , but I was concerned about the South facing bifold even though it is not that big and does not get sun all day.

The LVT we are looking at is the Karndean RP73 Kenyan Tigerwood set at 45 degrees with border.

    Hope this all makes sense.

I would not recommend you undertake all that work yourself You'd be much better off paying to have it done correctly once than paying twice when it goes wrong

Spacey thanks for your reply, but not really what I was after. As I say I want to do it myself and was hoping for some helpful advice.

If you don't try different things in life including developing new skills what is the point of life? ;)
