Im in the middle of renovating a house built in1968 It has on the GF uninsulated concrete floors I want to tile all the floors.. but I am unsure whether I will regret it because it will be too cold. I can get away with putting 10mm insulation under tiles but I don't know how much this will help? Has anyone had a similar problem.. whats the best way to do this..? Sounds expensive...! Im on a budget... Does anyone know if 10mm of insulation would be of any use or am I wasting my time doing that..?
What insulation tho? And how will the tiles adhere to it? This reminds me of a job i done for a friend in the 80's. It was cushionfloor vinyl on a concrete floor. I arrived with the roll of vinyl and prior to me arriving, he had wallpaper pasted expanded polystyrene to the floor, the stuff you put on walls under wallpaper. I was dubious but with the vinyl being loose laid it surprisingly worked. he said the floor was a lot warmer As for yourself with tiles tho I'm not too sure apart from whats already been suggested, UFH.
I understand the best solution would be UFH but im told that I would have to dig up the floor 170-200mm...? to allow for insulation pipes and screeding.. Not sure about that..? and it would just get too expensive..!
I would be looking to put something like this.. however, my concern is.. is it actually worth it? I was hoping that someone on here had already had experience with something similar.. and could advise

I was just thinking the same thing, electric ufh comes with an insulation board you can screed over, so you could just use the board without the heating system
In my last house, it was a new build with concrete floor. I've copied & pasted my post on a different thread about what i did. It did make the floor warmer as such, warm enough no to have to wear slippers (i never do) lol ... so maybe try this: I've done it, a full ground floor in my last house with 18mm layroch flooring board. Stuck it down with F3, drilled and plugged it 12" centres, then 6mm ply over the top, ring nailed 4" centres, then laid the karndean. That was 20 years ago and it still solid to this day, and the Karndean looks as good as the day i put it down.
Kingspan do a slim board for retro fit refurbs , call there technical helpline they will be able to advise you . I would look further into the running costs of electric ufc on an uninsulated floor even with foil boards . Thanks
Thanks for this info... However, if it was a new build (20 years ago) I would think reg's would have been such that at least 30mm insulation was installed. That I know makes quite a difference to how cold the floor actually is before starting to add to it.. My house is 1968 build and no insulation is in there.. I am tempted to have plumbers put me a flow and return to GF and go with a self install kit off ebay for wet UFH.. putting down 10mm of insulation.. again not sure how much heat loss Ill get because of only putting 10mm in it.. otherwise I have to excavate.. which is a big NO!
