Hi, first post and would lose some advice if I may.......I have a living room approx 4 metres x 5 metres which has quickstep laminate down, I would like to change it for solid wood but need advice please.
I have a logburner in room on a large slate stone so wondered if that is an issue.
Can I use the underlay that is under quickstep, its just a blue foam thin layer and is on.
I am laying on suspended pine floorboards.
It gets medium traffic so wondered if engineerd would would be OK, still prefer solid if you think there are no issues.
Whats the best thickness to get.
Lot of questions but I thought it was better than lost of single questions.
IF anyone can help I will be most greatful and will buy you a pint if you come to my pub in Earlswood .

You can’t float solid wood on Underlay.

So get engineered if it needs floating.

Get engineered if budget allows, new underlay and float it or secret nail it, floating it allows an easier diy job, dont bother with real wood it's a pain in the arse and doesn't look much different to engineered when down

Thanks for reply, will do what you suggest, floating sounds easier, what underlay do you suggest of floorboards mate.

Make sure it’s a click system, T&G engineered will still need to be fitted like a solid. Timbermate Excel or Cush’n’wood are decent underlay just make sure your floorboards are nice and level.

Engineered. Safer option for you without a serious site survey

Not on a ground floor without a vapour barrier though.
