Why are we so different to other businesses?if you bought your flooring from b&q ,you wouldn't get out the door with it without paying, if you bought a fridge or washing machine, etc. it wouldn't be delivered until paid for
I think people have more confidence in a large store. I would be more confident in paying a large sum of money to a big company than a small trade Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Do you find that a lot of people aren't exactly in a rush to pay the balance, once the job is done and you have to start phoning them up to remind them?
Yes and this is what really does my head in. They are all over you up until you've completed the job then when they should be paying you get nothing until you have to remind them couple times. Not all customers but I'd say 25% of mine can be like that. I should really start taking more deposits and this year I'll be upping my game and I'll definitely not be accepting cheques anymore
We don't take deposits but do expect full payment on completion, often having to "chase" some domestics for payment!
50% deposit balance on the day we don’t leave until we’re paid, instructions on the invoice which is strongly worded and you’re told at point of order no issues with payment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Always dragging it out. Most of the time I think they are riding it out until they get paid themselves Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think sometimes we need to be a little more ruthless in taking their money like the bigger shops. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got to look after yourself. That’s why I don’t like working for commercial. Always want to pay in bits and no deposits paid. We tendered for a £80,000 job from ROK doing a school. They said no deposit would be paid so we didn’t bother with it. They went bust a few months later. No thanks. I’ve sat in liquidator meetings where firms are owed similar amounts of money and the bankrupt business owner sitting on the other side of the table pleading poverty even though he’s turned up to the meeting in a Audi R8. We only take on commercial jobs that agree to our payment structure if not we’re not interested, had one saying no deposit, 90 days on payment and wanted a 15% discount on our prices, have a guess what I told them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Full payment on materials to place order. Always! Depending on size of job and our relationship with the client...approx 25 to 50% upon starting.. outstanding amount on completion or 7 days after. Have happily walked or refused 70% of jobs with these terms. Why risk leaving yourself short and chasing payments. Those that continue and give repeat business know our terms, they are happy as everything is completed as discussed and left with a spot on finish.
Domestic: 100% materials up front before an order is placed. Fitting fees direct to the fitters upon completion. Commercial: supply and fit all in - unless it's a regular, we usually ask for enough to cover our costs and time up top, then the balance on completion. But if it's a first time for the company, we're more inclined to ask for it all up front.
Get it sometimes, the worst ones are the ones who ask if you can do it cheaper for cash, agree and then wanna pay by bank transfer when its completed..
A deposit payment secured the job in hand as if a customer decides to cancel what happens with the goods you ordered?.
