I am not a fitter, just a shop who has started out, van will be mostly for advertising and deliveries, I want to be able to get 4m rolls in, would the Toyota Hiace long wheel base be ok?

I feel a long wheel base sprinter would be too big for me.

I think crafters and sprinters are the only ones that get 4m rolls in the back

You can get a 4m in but I think you need to remove the seats and go onto the dashboard.

Sadly this is the case for most standard vans in their LWB variants. For example I’ve got a traffic and need to do this.

If you think that looks ok and customers won’t get funny at a shop having carpets up on the dashboard then go for it. Otherwise go for a Sprinter type van that has the 4m load area.

Also bear in mind if you need to deliver a 5m...

We use a pug boxer and just have the carpet sticking out the back a little. Much prefer having the bulk heads in the vans now. I use to run them through in the Mazda, transporter, movano and transit back in the day

Mazda E2200 or E2000 are perfect for the job
But good ones are hard to find

Got an 07 Hiace with 205k on clock and never had a problem with it, very reliable but as others have said, the front seat has to come out. I have had a single seat put in the back. Get 3 or 4 x 4m cuts in straight and on an angle. Bit trickier with 5m obviously but the Sprinter etc is just too big for me in built up areas with parking. VERY reliable vans though.

Wish I had a picture of one I had. Bought for a grand and every panel was dinted. The guy driving it could not break it. He tried, hard.

I've seen carpet vans running around with big sealed tubes on the roofrack presumably for really long carpets why don't more people do that and have more standard vans - they could then even be tidy inside ;)

Some carpets are bad enough to get on the back of the van let alone the roof!

True enough but the one I saw pivoted, it would have looked like a rocket set for launch if it had had a nose cone! be a great gag to paint it like a kids rocket toy - good advert even.

If you’re not particularly fussy about the state of the bulk head you can get a 4m roll to fit with some brute force.

Just cut out circles in the roof and stand the carpets upright, no problems with any lengths and takes up less room inside

I've seen a few windscreens go, where people have rested the carpet on the dashboard and slammed the back door to force it in

When I first started, it was more common for fitters to use estate cars, i remember having a piece of that cheap jumbo cord on the roof and braking a bit too hard at a set of lights and watching this piece of carpet come sliding down the bonnet and onto the road in front of me, the people behind weren't too happy about having to wait, while i got it back on the roof

Not what youre looking for, but just put an order in for a MAN van, exactly the same as a crafter but has a diferent badge, commercial side of vw so you get a proper mechanic come out in the event of a breakdown, they will pay for hotels, flights and a van if urs has to be off the road . The best bit? £15600 discount off a 50k fully optioned lwb van
