Watched American Installers fitting stair flights using the `HOLLYWOOD STYLE`METHOD`. Apparently, they fit bottom to top - staple under nosing - stretch across tread -bolster staple onto gripper then onto stapling the next nosing ect. I never tried it, but the results look good - a very tightly fitted carpet flight that will never budge. Whats your view?
Looks good if your using saxony carpets or dark patterns. What is really smart is the way they take it round the bannister posts and cap it round the side o the step. Must be very time consuming Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Subjective, if a customer wants it then it can be done. Trouble with people in this country is nobody wants to pay for a good job, thats why theres so many cowboy trades over here.
Had an example of that just a couple of days ago, customer phones and says, i see you are a quickstep master installer, how much do you charge per sqm? I replied, £12 sqm, to which she replied, someone has quoted me £10sqm, will you match it? So she has more confidence in getting a good job by a master installer, but wants it done at the same price as someone who isn't
Thats why i just do newbuilds now, get 4.50sqm on carpet, most retail stores pay less than that so when you do private work youre trying to compete with people working for £2.50 and £3 and undercutting you,Not worth the time. Probably only do 3 or 4 privates a year and theyre usually people i know anyway
Sometimes i miss doing new builds, not the 60,000miles driving, but was nice to be left alone and just do my job, without the hassle of customers
I've had a few customers who think its OK to sit halfway up the stairs whilst I'm finishing off fitting them its like they think you really want to have a full blown convo whilst following you round the house until you 'politely' tell them to f*** off. Best one was a retired prison officer, he literally followed me everywhere like he was escorting me, I told him several times but he kept apologising saying its an habit. Did his dining room and made sure I baracaded myself in and stacked all his furniture in the kitchen part and f-me he came through the conservatory (joined to the kitchen) and squeezed himself in as much as he could ffs. He's rang me again asking is I could quote him for new wetroom flooring so I told him I'm busy for the next 5 months....hopefully he gets the message... ....so yeah I agree Paul, I love a new build
