Hi. I am wanting to level a concrete hallway floor. However, I discovered old black tiles when I removed the old laminate flooring, some of which are broken. I was wondering whether I need to uplift these before levelling or whether the compound could just be applied on top after clearing away the broken pieces?
Not worth the risk. Get them tested, it doesn’t cost a lot and can save you major headaches later. Friend of mine runs an asbestos testing and removal company if you want advice I’ll put you in touch.
What’s going over the top? If they are stuck well you can latex over them. If your bonding anything down they need to be tested and removed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks all. I was thinking they may contain asbestos so probably worth getting them tested unless anyone has any suggestions of a latex product that could just be put on top? The tiles are all mainly in good condition and stuck down apart from one or two in the corner which have broken in half. I’m wanting to lay LVT flooring on top, not tiling if that makes a difference.

The LVT I’m going to lay is the click type so doesn’t need glueing down etc. I’ve been reading through other forums and a recurring suggestion is to remove loose pieces, brush and mop before applying two coats of SBR and then SLC. Interested to hear people’s thoughts about this. My house is on top of a hill so assuming less chance of rising damp - will the old layer of bitumen be sufficient?
Clic doesn’t last long if there’s any moisture under it. You could latex over the tiles, put down a isolator sheet then clic over it. Personally I would get them tested first, if no asbestos remove them. If they have asbestos I would put a good coat of latex over them. They need to be stuck well tho.
