CAN I….FIT LVT OVER A TILED FLOOR THAT HAS WET UFH?

Hello, I was wondering if I could have LVT fitted over tiles that has wet UFH? I was going to take the tiles up but it appears that they are fitted under the skirting and the skirting is stuck on to plasterboard walls in my hall and kitchen. The UFH is the only source of heating in this area and my budget doesn’t stretch to having all that work. So I wondered if I could just get a floor professional to go over the top?

 

Are we talking over existing ceramic tiles?

 

Hello yes I am. I have two concerns a) can you do it and b) will the heat still come through?

 

Yeah you can. More importantly will the heat be too hot? Lvt can’t go over 27 degrees so maybe test the floor temp first. Also all the tiles should be well fixed without any cracks or movement. Then prime and smooth with a levelling compound. You could degrease them but unless it’s a ice rink or you have a gas mask I wouldn’t bother
