Who has a apprentice or had one ? Worth the hassle? As some will know I had Kieran who is now 24 and fitting LVT amazing. It was hard in the early years but worth it in the end. We have 2 now. Art who is just over 2 years in and 19 and Josh who’s a year in and 17. Always a pain pushing them and telling them, again and again. But I defo feel it’s the best way. “ get the bolster art , no mate that’s a wood chisel “
Always had apprentices, trained loads. 3 of the guys are now doing really well n there own. Some never made the grade, and I didn`t stay in touch with them. I know most people piss and moan about the kids these days etc, but for the most part I have found them to be hard working.
I really gotta get another apprentice next year. Had a few that done well and a couple that I’m pretty sure won’t be in flooring anymore Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My dad taught me, his now teaching my youngest brother while i train up my other brother. Thinking of taking on another as we've run out of family . Does anybody take them on as self employed, if so what do you thinks a fair price to start them off on? I currently have my brother on % of the days pay as we subcontract alot and i feel it gives them incentive to work harder. Or are you all doing it as employed and proper apprenticeships
I have a regular subbie I pay day rate which works for both of us. Be hard a beginner though as he won’t make you much money at 1st.
if he can sweep and fetch and carry the time he'll save will earn me money so should be all good. just a bit apprehensive of putting the feelers out and saying they have to be self employed, probably puts a lot off. i started off on £25 a day in 2011
Ha, I was on £25 a day too. I start my lads on £60 take home, cards in. £60 does not really buy much nowdays. God I sound old....
