I'd like some advise regarding flooring in my spare room which I'm preparing to decorate.

The floorboards are very old (prob installed in the 50's) its on the 4th floor in a block of flats. They are very bouncy, loose and made a crunchy sound, also with a lot of 'L' shaped nails having come loose or even missing)

So I decided to remove a board and see what underneath before re-nailing or screwing down. As the attached picture shows there seems to be metal joists running across over rough concrete. The nails were banged into the concrete.

In terms of repair what is the safest and most cost efficient way of going about this? Could I use shorter planks in between each metal joist? Is adhesive possible? Any advise at this point would be invaluable.

Wow  I think I'd loose the wood and get a fibre reinforced concrete poured in if its all like that But I'd say you probably need to check qith building owners exactly what your allowed to do and its not very practical on the fourth floor?

I'm not entirely sure if would work, but may be worth looking in to, but possibly replace with chipboard, glued tongue and groove and to the beams

Last one we did like that. We had it covered with a dpm slurry. Levelled it and covered with cement board
