Hi All, Just another one of those pesky do it yourselfers about to attempt his first glue down LVT floor. I know what you're thinking, "here we go again". Also, i am jumping in at the deep end and going parquet . So, ill explain step by step what i am going for an please step in and tell me if i'm going wrong. my current subfloor is 25m2 floating floorboard floor and 5m2 concrete slab with DPM already laid. I am going with Polyflor camero cambridge as it's 1/4 the price of karndean art range Step by step: Knock in all nail heads in existing floorboards, add 1 screw per nail in whole floor (probably not nessacery buy removes all squeaks and really stiffens up the feel) Belt sand any lips or cupped boards Check with 2m level and try to achieve <5mm deflection in full span Overboard all floorboards with 9mm hanson SP101, staggered and screw down every 100mm around edges and 150mm in middle with SS 20mm screws Self level the DPM area with Ardex FA10 and use the same to feather all the board edges and screw holes in the ply (basically fully cover boards) Rotary sand all boards and maybe go for another feather coat?? Recheck with 2m level and try to obtain <3mm over 2m span Vacuum, Vacuum and Vacuum again Mark out and dry fit flooring in 1m2 sections, lift and glue down with F ball F49 Hybris PS after 10mins of glue setting (semi wet install) and roll with cheap amazon floor roller (Amtico karndean floor & wall roller 18 – 24 inch long £25) Doesn't look much on paper but working around my actual job this will take me weeks. I'm currently half way through step 1 What do you all think? Am I stupid? Actually, don't answer that, I know the answer. I'm in Derby if anyone wants to quote and save me from my misery Thanks all
Not too sure to be honest. It's been exposed for a year now covered by a rug with no sign of moisture. I'll attach a photo. The extension was done by the previous owner about 10-12 years ago. Mitch
Like I say, I'm not too sure. It's only a thin layer on top and everyone that's seen it trade wise seems to think it's a kind of damp proof finish. I've not had any type of floor specialists around like yourselves.
Ah brill! Can I then use the ardex NA or CL for the feathering or should I stick with FA10? Sent from my ELE-L29 using Tapatalk
Just reading up on the P4 and saw "NOTE: Ardex P4 Primer is not recommended for submerged locations such as swimming pools or substrates such as metal, mastic asphalt, excess adhesive residues, Polyurethane and Epoxy coatings." I must have misunderstood. I thought you were advising to prime the asphalt pre levelling compound but am now thinking you mean prime the levelling compound with p4, pre adhesive application. Is this correct? Sent from my ELE-L29 using Tapatalk
If old asphalt then you shouldn’t use P4 but if you degrease it you can. if using NA then straight to it no primer If using CL prime it with P4
Thanks for this, NA reads to be the easier and better for my application product so I shall go with that. Just for curiosity too, I have been struggling to get hold of the 9mm sp101 due to most places needing to be an account holder. I have managed to get a local timber merchant to make the order and deliver the 8' X 4' boards. The best price he can do is £63.80 Inc VAT per board. What is everyone else paying? Bloody hell. At that price you should just varnish the ply and have that as your floor. It’s worth more than the lvt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
just what I was thinking and yes the ply will come to more than the final floor covering but everybody says you have to go with SP101 or FG1 and I can't find any below that price. Sent from my ELE-L29 using Tapatalk
I did want 9mm ply to achieve a certain final floor height but I could scrap that and go for the Hanson 5.5mm ply for £18 a sheet. A third of the price. Sent from my ELE-L29 using Tapatalk
Yea I could only get 9mm for £57 + VAT online but they wanted £180 for delivery and I could get it local after chatting to Hansen for £58 + VAT. I then went down to 5.5 and it was £24 + VAT for the 8x4 + same delivery, but if I dropped down to the 4x2 then I got it for £8 + VAT per sheet and only £60 for delivery so I went with that. Just rounded it up to the price of 8x4 to avoid explaining but I guess I did that anyway haha. I ordered from puretree timber who supply Hanson boards, only downside is there in Exeter which is a bit uneconomical to deliver to the Midlands but I was in a bit of a pinch. Mate you’ve got that the wrong way round it’s 2 ‘x 4’ or 8’ x 4’ you need 4 sheets of 2’ x 4’ to make a 8’ x 4’ board
Ah shit, yea you're right. That's what you get when I try quick math while mid hammering, drilling and talking . No wonder I over ordered. I ended up putting in the calculator mid job and mid convo and ordering 35 sheets. So the 8x4 maybe would have been cheaper after delivery cost but it's ordered now .
