Hi all, I'd be grateful of some advice!

We're having Brintons Beltwist laid throughout a house; two suppliers have quoted, one using Brinfelt throughout and one using Dreamwalk (except for stairs where they're using a thinner underlay).

Can anyone advise on the pro's and con's of both? At the moment the Dreamwalk quote is coming out 10% more expensive than the quote using Brinfelt although from different retailers so appreciate there may be other influences in the price.

I've read on this forum about the depth of the underlay and doubling grippers so I've learnt something already!!

    Thanks in advance!

Brinfelt is much the better underlay, denser, firmer, more supportive, the carpet will wear more evenly and recover from pressure much quicker than on Dreamwalk. 11mm puFoam will give a deep soft feel at the expense of less support of the carpet and wear pressure resulting in poorer wear, durability and appearance retention.

Similar underlays to Brinfelt are Axminster Axfelt65 and Ulster Carpets Axfelt65.

If I remember correctly Britton’s recommend a combination underlay (ie Brinfelt) with Belltwist so that would be my go to.

Yes brinfelt defo the better option. Why are they changing the underlay on the stairs? No point unless it’s a runner

They said they like to provide a closer finish to the edge of the stairs as a thiner underlay takes to the edge better.

As a side question when I asked about raising the grippers, I’ve been informed that they will

‘fitters’ instruction are to ‘double bank’ (fitting grippers parallel to each other) opposed to doubling up on the gripper. This is only complete on the length ends of the carpet.’

    Will that be sufficient??

    UTV ;)

Yeah some fitters double bank the gripper on the widths for woven carpets. You won’t need to raise the gripper for brinfelt

Yep use brinfelt, go with geordie gripper or raise the gripper and double bank on the width then it’s time for the power stretcher

Well after all that Brintons have discontinued Brinfelt! I even called them myself to confirm!

So I'm now being offered Axfelt or Kensington Deluxe - with Brintons recommending Axfelt so I guess that's the way to go!

Either will do the job nicely.

Axfelt a little thick for me but still good underlay. Brintons use to recommend cloud 9 contract or super contract before they started selling their own

Axfelt is a nicer product than Kensington, it's a full natural felt on crumb rubber rather an a blended felt mix on crumb.
