    Hello

"It is customary for reputable carpet dealers to ask that you pay up to 50% of the estimate upfront for your carpet, pad and installation. You will be asked to pay the balance-due upon competition and upon your complete satisfaction of a job well-done." - according to abccarpetsDOTcom/indexDOThtml which is, it seems, American.

I am not aware of any carpet retailer in Britain that operates on such a basis. Are you?

Should be 100% imo. You can't walk into Tesco buy a weeks shopping and pay half and the rest a week later after you've eaten it,

If I order anything in for customers I need 100% upfront but installation can be paid on completion of work. Not the best business if you dont protect yourself an expose yourself to non payers. I anyone is unhappy with that then fair enough, they are welcome to find someone else to supply them. Trust has to go both ways

Sorry Adam but I paid upfront last year for Carpets £3600 they went bust 2 days later before fitting or delivering any carpets and I lost every penny as did thousands as a National Carpet Shop.
As to the Supermarket Shopping you buy the products which are in your shopping trolley a totally different scenario ... You cannot eat Carpets anyway.
A reputable business will take 50% deposit what could be fairer? Why should the Business be fully paid before lifting a finger? 50% is fair to both parties and both parties have to take the same risks.
