Anyone got one? Anyone know where to get one? I have used in past when first came to U.K. The Nicf had one when i was involved with them. However it seems to of never managed to find its way into the U.K. i have emailed the company who make it a few times but never get a reply. Would like to get this tool in the training center for the new apprentices coming into the trade. Personally i think its a spot on tool. For those who dont know what it is - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHUf5mjREYk&feature=related
Some advantages are - 1- no smoke / chemicals etc that you get with a normal heat seam. 2- Cant over heat tape. 3- If not happy with part of a join you can re activate the tape redo that part of join 4- The tool is always cold so no chance of burning yourself or damaging carpet (can put iron down on pile of carpet) 5- no chance of getting glue on carpet when removing iron 6- can seam whole join flat as dont have to get iron out at end 7- Can seam seal edge of carpet and tape into place and reactivate to seal both carpets together. ( no peaking and stronger join) 8- Can heat seam around bends like a .......... ummmm..... bullnose step ....... 9- Repair work. Can get tape and 'heat seam' small holes etc. It has plenty of advantages mate.
1 open a window 2 you won't overheat the tape if you know what you're doing (set to 3 instead of 4) 3 if you're not happy with any part of the join, you did it wrong in the first place 4 you won't burn yourself or the carpet if you know what you're doing 5 see 4 6 was this ever really a big problem?....thought not. 7 stronger?why?... a join only needs a certain strength to be sufficient. 8 who seams a step? 9 Small holes?...... cut around a coin, spray addy, job done. 10 Waste of money.
about £300 i think. But, until i actually get a reply from the company and find out how much we can supply for im guessing. Also, they do a double sided version of the tape that we could be using to set out your first and last rows of wood flooring Im at a loss of the lack of communication of the company to be honest. I have another company that are looking at making something similar if this company dont want to supply the U.k. But to be honest i would prefer to simply use the product already on the market. Like i say its just stupid of Kool Glide to not talk with us.
Cant be bothered to comment on each one of your comments but to be fair your being silly and seem to be stuck in the past of using 1960's technology and not wanting to improve ? Do you still have a B&W T.v also?
Good luck with that been tryin to get one for ages, I have learnt they do struggle with technical difficulties and are offten being returned for repair. Good tool but don't think its quite there yet seems problamatic and tempremental.
Yes Jay, i know you have been after for one for a while as read your posts on other 'non' u.k forums. I also know there was issues. The one i was playing with maybe 5 years ago now played up. But i think that was transformer issues causing it. (cheap crap that was being used? I did question the quality off the transformer) However, many years have passed so if there was issues i would expect to be sorted.
I think they are still suffering from time to time, and reading between the lines it seems they are hit or miss.
Hope you have better luck than me matt, they have never replied to any of my emails. Seem to be typical American atitude to suppling anything this side of the water. They don't get back to you or they say that they just want to supply US customers. I also notice a lack of orders coming out of the states.... I have had some good orders but not any real quantity, unlike Austraila where we get lots of orders.
lol, no, I'm 42 inch flatscreen, h.d and all that. Why am I being silly?....because I have a different opinion? Besides, I've yet to meet a fitter who wants one. I can see fitters new to the trade wanting one, but there are really no practical advantages of that over a heat seamer It's not about being stuck in the past, it's about what works for you, and I've yet to have any technical issues with my Kool Top. And honestly, why would the join need to be stronger? It's a carpet, not a rope.
We have been asked!! One problem may also be the tape, I am sure it would need to be their own and cost would no doubt be high. www.carpetfittersshoponline.co.uk
I would definatly get 1, easier for seaming doorways and no face full of smoke. I bet they play up a lot and I can't see it being easy to ship everything back and forth for repairs. They need a dedicated company set up over here, but then if they are selling to the whole of America they don't really need any more customers!
I would get one for sure and I intend to get one when I holiday there next year. The biggest plus for this tool is the tape and adhesive used, unlike the usual offender we all use here HEAT SEAM TAPE, the adhesive on our tape has allsorts of nastiness in it most of which is carsonagenic think thas how you spell it. Basically the smoke given off from heat seam tape is very poisonous and lingers for a long time due to it being heavier than air. It is especially bad for young children to be around or even in the house when seaming is going on. Some of the toxins have been linked to triguring asthma in young children.
