My wife and I have just bought a house and are planning some major renovations that will leave us with a ground floor that, apart from the hall, is open plan. (Lounge with opening to kitchen/diner). The floor area will be about 65 square metres. We want to fit suitable flooring and have looked briefly at Amtico and Quick Step at exhibitions but would welcome ideas from any experts on here who have experience on projects like this. We can't have underfloor heating and feel that stone tiles or stone effect flooring would look out of place in a living room so wood or wood effect seems the most practical option. Thanks in advance for any help.
21mm engineered wood flooring would be my choice, or one of the quickstep engineered products. I personally wouldn't put down a lvt or Amtico in place of the real thing unless you want borders.
Hi I'm totally opposite lvt all the way for me amtico Karndean polyflor loads of choice and done correctly will look good years to come
Me also, im a fan of LVT's. Good quality ones most people cant tell the difference. Its amazing how many people are on wood install courses and think some of the LVT's are real wood. My main reason for LVT tho is the abuse it can take. Takes some going to damage it. As for real stuff (wood) you cant beat the real thing as every bit is unique but no good in my household.
Plus lvt are moisture tolerant where as wood and laminate are anything but, get them wet at your peril.
Thanks for this advice. Matt mentioned LVTs that students couldn't tell the difference. Which brands would these be?
Most brands have good LVT's that many find very 'life' like. Its all down to your choice. Karndean / Amtico / Mflor for example all have some really good LVT's but they also have some very plastic looking ones. Belive it or not but some consumers want a 'plastic / Fake' looking floor. (karndean used to do a copy of a laminate floor look for example) Hence it will be down to what you go for after looking at samples . Ideally you could do with a good installer to come out and advice you on what products give you what look. You could look here for a installer - http://theflooringforum.com/listing.php Only problem is that directory is very new and awaiting installers details so depending on where you are there may not be someone added as of yet? PS- out of interest if the above directory was full of installers would it be a help to you?
I think a good installer should be paramount, right products, right preperation good job otherwise I wouldn't bother doing the work at all it's not DIY.
Looks like no members in Suffolk area, John if you're anywhere near or not to far from Beccles I do know a very good fitter in that area and more than happy to get his number for you. He is fully qualified and cscs regfistered to nvq level 2.
Go Nab you're already a forum member so it would be wrong for me to step on your toes and invite a new member here to take work from exsisting members that have been here for some time.
