Was at the Transport museum with the family and then went for dinner in Glasgow was outside having a ciggy and got chatting to an a guy who had put the resin floors down in the museum, he was telling me you can more or less have any design colour combo with resin floors
Nah just a genral chat about flooring and different comapnys when having a ciggy, he did say they had never been more busy though and he had been at it something like 20 years
I've had a couple requests for resin in kitchens and also tried to put them off as Altro always said resin is just for commercial areas.
Gotta watch that stuff it has some pretty nasty chemicals in it. I have done quite a lot of this but had to give up on it as after prolonged exposure I started getting horible rashes on my lower arms wrists an hands to the point my skin would crack an start to bleed. I do miss it an if memory serves correct the floor prep for this stuff is hyper critical as is with most but even more so with this. Not tryin to put anyone off doing it I loved it an wish I could again the old body can't handle it anymore. This was even with PPE.
yep, as jay says its epoxy and 'can' be nasty stuff. However we have been looking into some modified epoxy's that are much safer along with a product that is very similar but not actually a epoxy. Im looking into a lot of different types at moment and when i find the system i think will suit best (health + safety , ease of use etc) we will doing a few courses.
I've seen them crack a few times, not sure why. Some people have it in the garage and even on driveways.
i have seen dpm blow, screeds blow, bubbles in carpets etc. If something fails it has a reason why it failed and most of the time it is installer error. If anyone happens to be passing IKEA in Birmingham , well go and have a look at the state of the floors in there. They keep swapping the floor covering every few months as they keep failing. Im sure that one day they will work out that the floorlayers are crap. Its funny as you walk through the floorcovering changes from epoxy, finished compound, polyfloor, tarkett, laminate etc. All of which have failed and nothing to do with the products. All install error.
power floated concrete. I would guess around 20 years before they are dry below 75% RH. They fitted laminate straight over the top and it took in moister and failed next they did polyfloor, this bubbled like made, obviously as the moister was so high. They then used a 'wearing' smoothing compound that also failed due to high moister and lack of key Then they used a resin flooring but never shot blasted the power floated. This failed Then they got wise and put down a epoxy DPM but forgot to prepare the subfloor and it had pinholes, bits missing etc and customers including myself was walking over it while still tacky ! They installed Tarkett over the top and on my return this had failed also. Obviously thos as the dpm was so poor. Im going back tomorrow so will see whats happened and get pics.
Sounds like a right cock up. I can't believe a big company like that has ended up taking so much crap. You better drop a card off to the manager mate, do him a favour.
ikea is my MRS idea of a day out mate. I can turn around and say , "so do you fancy going 'alton towers' , a weekend away? or would you like to go IKEA ? " Always IKEA.
