I am glad I'm not the only one surprised by this. Only thing though many of you mention gaps! The method was for black lining, hardly a gap, and if you put it into gaps you're asking for trouble because I suspect amongst other things it will behave very differently than the tile. Also the BAL powder is a very fine powder not a course grout.

Good to hear different views though.

bal also state with their grouts minimum groutline of 3mm unless use epoxy which can go really thin, otherwise you'll get cracking and crumbling of the grout, the bal technical advisor told me many times.

I know its a bit dodgy but running the point of the knife down the joins normally works. But a colleague of mine had a similar problem Kandean sent a bloke down and they were brilliant admitted they weren't up to standard and replaced with different product.

Ive found same with amtico that if you get a grey backed batch your gonna have a nightmare but if you have black backed one its not as bad, quality has gone downhill though either way.

    He's probably been sacked now!

Unbelievable, I've got a load of limestone to fit next month and I've got to tell the customer that the 2nd most expensive product that Karndean make has to have grout rubbed into it to make it look right.

On the spacia the black backing is from china, and when they are low on gear they make it in uk and that's the grey backing.
That floor I had where I carried on from the other room living room, hall and dining room was grey back and the new kitchen which now looks a bit lighter was black backing.

I done some Van Gogh yesterday and they had that black liner type backing, makes it hard to snap them you have to cut every one.

Recently had an order for opus, nero, 18x18 with 3mm grout strip. We planned the floor out, started to dry lay and tiles joining were awful. i took some pics on my slr to send to karndean but my dad rang them and asked to speak to techincal. He said in his opinion they were seconds as the joining was so bad. She asked if we had tried cutting a few of the tiles to see if they would join better(not exactly what you expect to have to do). It seemed the bottom of the tiles was wider tan the top. Anyway they looked rubbish so we said we wont fit them, without even checking them they said they would send us out another batch. In my opinion they knew there had been problems and she admitted there had been similar problems with another range!! We received the next batch the next day by 9.30am. We fitted them but i cant say i was 100% happy with the job. If the customer had inspected closely, we could have had problems.

what do you fit as lvt, merit? we fit polyflor camaro for a customer and all the kitchens and bathrooms we have done and had no problems. Then we go up in price to karndean and all sorts of problems.

I only carry Camaro (which I luv) and mflor products. I've got spacia samples but im not a massive fan of spacia. Amtico original product is great but not really something I get to sell a lot as I find its mainly a retailers product.
