used opus a few times, not a fan, far too easy to scratch imo which is the weird thing seeing as its commercial only!
beveline is far the superior product sandy as you know, more likely down to the tic finish than anything else Folks have too high an ecxpectation of lvts (££) for them to get a scratch as soon as ive laid it I much prefer the textured finishes, hides a lot of sins right there! lol
Translated it says "Last batch huge gaps, need to change blade after another 10000000 sqaure metres..... oh and prawn crackers"
Totally agree coolvilangel. We fitted it in a kitchen and noticed scratches before we finished the job. Customer was shocked that this so called hard wearing material could scratch so easy.
They all scratch. It's just much more noticeable on some than others. A smooth finish will show more marks than an embossed one due to how the light reflects off it. The difference with commercial tiles is the overall wear is more important than minor scratches hence the smooth finish in that a smooth finish wil wear better in the long term. With domestic wear is not such an issue so an embossed surface is preferrable to disguise minor scratches. I reckon the wear layer on an embossed tile would wear through far quicker on an embossed tile long before a smooth one as the high spots would wear through quicker. My point is commercial tiles are designed to wear longer whereas domestic ones are designed to look better longer. The only product I can think of that is smooth and scatch resistant is Amtico which carries a price tag. That's my take on it anyway.
yeah agree with what you are saying but from customers point of view when they hear the product is hard wearing, lasts a long time, better than ceramics etc, they dont expect to see scratches when its just been finished. She said to me, isnt this commercial rated? I told karndean the customers frustration and all they could say is, the tile isnt scratched, its the protective layer thats scratched, its what we put on it, so just use our kit to remove the scratches. Oh thats fine then.Ill Buy a kit at my expense and make another visit to the customers.Very put off karndean after that job. Moan over.
I'm very honest about it but put it in a positive way. For example you don't say a smooth one will mark more easily: you say a embossed one will age better.
On the cheaper planks / tiles I tell them a rough or textured finish will hide scratches and scuff marks. And it does. That tlc barn oak is cheap as chips and done a good few pallets of it this year.
