Mixed some screed yesterday by hand. Only half a bag. Made me think of doing that all the time in the late 80s early 90s which I wouldn't dream of now. So mixed half bags of screed in a small bucket is one also. Ring nailing plywood all day on big classrooms by hand...
taking up metre upon metre of ceramic tiling with lump hammer & bolster... under-cutting architrave & lining with hand saw - FeKK still do a bit of that... then hand cuttiing the door to height... measuring areas with metre-stick... LOL not actually that old (45 tomorrow) just had to do this once when i'd left my 10m tape measure on a job & found one my Dad's (bless him) old metre stick's in the van...
I would advise against using your hand to mix the latex as it might burn your skin, wearing a rubber glove would help . I use gripperrod or a folded door bar to knock up if I'm feeling flush.
There are some things i MISS Like filling up the van for £50, and then filling my belly with beer, for a tenner !
I filled mine up with super diesal yesterday picked the bloody wrong nozzle up and was talking to mate in passenger side before I realised £125 fricking quid
One thing I don't miss is using laybond 48 for cork tiles then 48 for needle punch on top then f61 for wall cord in classrooms then grab sleeping bag and curl up in corner of room for few how's surprised no one ever died with those fumes did that for years just to pocket the b+b money for a bit of a bonus, stupid looking back now
ooooh i get around 300 miles on £45 in my nice new Berlingo - Downsized the wheels, don't run a beast anymore as majority of my work is fit only & when I need too I arraneg ALL materials direct to site, no strain on my nice new '12' plate motor *DON'T miss jump starting the old LDV @ 5.00AM on these chilly morning & then freeeezin my gonads off all the way down the M4 until junctions 10-12... nor the £45 diesel going in for the journey up there then £45 en-route home...
Gripper is utter sh*t these days! The wood is the cheapest, voidiest crap around and the pre-nails are in at all angles! Sampled a piece of floorwise diamond but really struggling to see the difference in quality...... found the difference on price quick enough ;-) Ah yes, the older days..... days when customers actually respected your opinion over google! Using home-made screw blocks to hold the first quickstep laminate together (the glue kind). Always remember the first time I used the laminate ratchet clamps, in fairness I bought a cheapy set to see if I liked them...... over tightened the clamp, the other side shot off the edge of the laminate and just missed the TOP of my head as it took off across the room!!
