Hello everyone! I hope you can help, as so far, t'interweb hasn't been much use I've just bought a house with a hardwood floor - seems it's the click-in type rather than the original floorboards. UPDATE: the wording on the ad for the house is actually "solid wood flooring", if that makes any difference at all Anyway, I'd like to darken it - but from my research so far, it's not as easy as just cleaning and varnishing to get the desired effect. I'm told I don't have to strip all of the current stain/varnish off - assuming it's the way it was bought and hasn't been changed since, what would I have to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Mark
You have come the right place mark. I don't do real wood but alot of the lads on here do so sure you will get a solution mate.
Ohhh jeez, now you're asking! I don't get the keys to my new pad until Thursday so can't be too sure. If I were to post a photo, maybe some closeups, would you be able to tell? As you can tell, I'm new to this (more of a car person!) but really want to gets hands on with making this new pad perfect! UPDATE: the wording on the ad for the house is actually "solid wood flooring", if that makes any difference at all
No probs - I won't have any until Thurs, but as soon as I'm in, I'll post a couple of snaps. Thanks for the warm welcome
hi and welcome. Ye we need some pictures. Dont belive adverts for houses that say real wood flooring. Plenty are wrong when the adjacency selling the house dont have a clue. Also people tend to call stuff 'real' when its not. Get some pictures and we will go from there.
Try to get a photo of a cross section .Check if the wood stops when going under a cupboard door and take a photo of the edge.I think that makes sense?
Ok - no direct cross-sections as such, as they all have borders, but here's a snap. Ideally looking to get working on these over the weekend so any help on what I can use would be great!
Ohhh good - and yep, didnt think it was laminate - feels too...real! Not sure on sizes but will check tomorrow evening. Meanwhile what's thoughts on how to darken them? Sand by hand them varnish? Any idea? Apparently the sealant might stop it working?
i dont suppose you know if its a laquare finish or oil / wax do you ? the header joints look like its laquared to me? What do you think Mario?
Waterbased single part Satin finish.. look at the sheen top left corner, don't think many people would use 2 part on a domestic apart from me... lol
on first look yes, but look at the grain on that first board a pre-finished board would look warn and flat maybe blackish in colour not pitted with the grain..
