    Or boot polish !
Bit of heat to the joins dulls any scratches
Dividers for internals, if wall are t*ss

That's what I do on the slight occasion I catch capping with the heat gun it does dull it down. To be fair mitres can't be perfect on not straight walls and I use silicone to to hide it. I can't see any other way. I sometimes overlap them on walls not perfect.

A couple of things might help, I either use dividers for internals or cut dry first if inexperienced, trimming as you go. when doing externals my choice is sticking first then place sit on the walls, running knife squarely down the wall and cutting foot at just over mitre angle, then place other side over this edge and run knife squarely along outer edge of sit on, at the bottom trim off as before, then line up foot, making sure it's pushed in and mitre , if you want perfect job that doesn't come apart, use mitre mate adhesive, it's a super glue with a spray activator,
Just along the joint. some of the subbie's I have seen warm it and wrap the externals, I don't like the look as the bottom distorts, so we don't do it. Some clients are ok with it, or they must be because i see it on a lot of finished jobs,so it's not getting snagged.
