Another one bites the dust! National independent distributor Morleys Ltd has reportedly seized trading on Monday 20th May, this has got to be a real kick in the knads for the flooring trade. Not because of loosing a distributor, its the issue of another independent family run business going to the dogs because of the buying power and aggression of international co-operations. Watch out for more casualties as I foresee this Autumn the biggest price war in flooring this country has ever seen!
Raw materials cost and they don't go down neither does overheads.... but we all want cheaper!!.... it will come to a point when it's not viable...
Morleys like others put market share above profit... If you dont make a profit market share means nothing... They failed to pass on increases in aluminium cost for years in order to retain market share. Now they have lost all market share .. the question now is will others increase prices to a profitable level and in doing so bring back some meat to the aluminium plates that are far too thin to do the job required.
They recently changed the glue on their peel & stick range, it used to stick like sh1t to a blanket, now it's rubbish
I spoke to Morleya today and although they are still open, answering calls and even taking orders they aren't delivering anything till further notice. Tough position for the staff on the front line answering the phones
I did a job last week and one nosing was measured wrong. Now they can't give it to me and the other block is waiting to be done. I feel sorry for those who may lose their jobs but im not in a good position now.
ive never had a morleys measure go right, ever, always either cut short/long or not enough sent out, actively dissuade the firm I sub to not use them as its a head ache.
We always used gradus but they sent us a whole blocks worth of nosings and most needed cutting plus the pips change to an insert which was hard work and extra time. Morleys basically the same problems but now I've got big problems.
Never had problems with gradus. I get them to do all the nosings on big jobs. Can't really comment on morelys as I don't use them.
Please send me your measurements to quote for next time we cut to size no extra charge... All steps are labeled with the size and step number..
I never used Morleys, might have done the odd nosing from one of distributors , but i would never touch the adhesives, might have been a few pennies cheaper per m2 but i used to ask myself did they have the financial backing to stand by the product if it went wrong, the obviously answer now is NO as an alternative to Gradus try using Treads U, deal direct rather than via distributor.good selection and fast turnaround, contact me and i will send you the reps details
used to, but they let me down.. Did a nightclub with lots of curves, they templated and when it turned up they were all upside down... ended up cutting both lots to make me own.. good job i'm that way.. make it up as i go..
I do, but as mjfl the last template they did for me, did n`t fit. They also quoted me a 7 day turnround, and it took 6 weeks !?!
