@ uv. I know you said you didn't touch morleys cos it may have been cheaper but you were worried about financial backing. I assume you thought that cos they were Too cheap? Well that firm you put me onto are even cheaper than morleys, so is that a good sign? Very quick at sending me the sample pack and it turn out my dad has dealt with them before. Spoke to morleys Friday regarding the one nosing they owe me. They said try getting it elsewhere. Thanks then. One different nosing in a block full of morleys nosings and their colour inserts.

    Hi @Nk1

No, i know Treads are cheaper and better in my opinion,
    especially service,
used them for years for all my jobs if i can switch it from Gradus. They are part of Marling carpets, old family firm, really nice group of people, I buy stock lengths and cut them myself for the best price.
I didn't have a problem with Morleys nosing, its when they started to do adhesives that what i was talking about, what can go wrong with a nosing really? its the financial backing they had behind them if an adhesive failed, thats what i was concerned about, they started to offer lots of different adhesives which were cheaper than other well known branded names, when picking adhesives i always like to make sure they have a good technical department and would replace a product if they were at fault, if you think about it, sometimes the replacement cost with uplift, materials, labour, and loss of work could be £50 to 80m2 all for an adhesive cost of £0.30m2 so a saving of £0.05m2 is a drop in the ocean really
its very hard to get a manufacturer to accept blame for any faulty products, let alone one that sells it very cheap.
let me know what nosing you are missing, size , range and colour, never know might have one

When i heard Morleys were in trouble i asked my supplier what were the alternatives ,they suggested Genesis & Treads. I looked at a sample of Genesis & told them "I can't use them" the ally section is so thin. Looked at Treads i think that's the way forward for me.

Valid points uv. I've never thought about cutting the lengths myself though. It's a double track, the shape is not square or rack back, the one In between both and I'm not actually sure what it's called. I will get detalils Monday and get back to you. If you had one, it would solve a lot of my headaches but I need the insert. Treads said their colours were very similar, so hopefully I can get away with it.

Will phone a few people I know, might be albe to help, the good thing about treads is they bring in their own profiles, (well the standard ranges ) and they have a couple of people in the factory cutting,
reminds me of when I was young visiting where my dad worked ( 30 years for safety tread as their outside fixer) at old ford, hackney, both my brother and I worked on so many staircases across the uk with my dad, so we do know a few things about nosings,
We used to lay wiltons or Axminster down staircases in cinemas/ bingo halls, cut the underlay away from the tread, then used to shear the pile away with horse shears, then fix the nosing, hard work but the carpet never frays and the nosings don't rock off, still do it on special jobs

Treads will even get in for me stock lengths to suit my cuts, 2.25,2.75.or 3.05 on large jobs, sometime it's easier to get them to cut, they do offer a Site service aswell I think, but my dad would turn in his grave if I used that, lol
what's good about the treads nosing is they don't have the pips, they have double sided tape and you screw & fix and then put the inserts on,
They are like the elite range but without the difficulty of squeezing them in sideways, cut them tight at the ends,or oversize like elite.
Years ago the inserts were not very good, used to be a plastic and just didn't look right, if fact they looked really bad.
But look good now and worth a look.

What colour was the insert your looking for , the Treads MD2 is very close to HN12

Yeah, I always, well used to, buy my nosings without the insert fitted so you don’t have the pips.

Nice one uv. How many greys are there? I have the swatch from treads now but I need to run it back to north London to compare and I'm in twickenham.
