Hi Matt, get the pins made for me locally. bought it with the no adjustable head when they first came out but it soon got battered up, got the adjustable later on for £50, the stretcher was £150 new in 1990? which was a fortune to me for a tool, but it's still used every week and I have the knees of a 18 year old lol. Presume Sid Bourne got you the better head for it ?

On the underside of it does it have the Solihull address stamped under there? That looks like one of the first ones with the extended rear end.

Ye i guess £150 quid was a lot back then, worth a fortune now tho, everyone i show it at the training centre wants one! especially as you have the original head ( i say original, thats the head the prototype had but got switched for a lower quality one once it was sold by floorwise. Personally i think the other head is what killed it off.

Bargain, i have a few of them with the 'floorwise' head (fixed head). Keep thinking of selling them but keep changing my mind. All brand new and unused. My personal one is the prototype (or should i say Sids one that i wont return) , i keep the others are spares incase something ever broke. However apart form the pins nothing breaks on them .

mmm...I won't be as harsh as Merit Lol but no that's not really a good idea to order carpets that are short ! Its more about getting the correct tension in the carpet rather than actually trying to stretch it but in large areas the carpet will need to be stretched more to obtain a good tension so using a power stretcher can achieve this & is a great tool for aligning pattern's properly. Also handy when you cock up need the carpet to actually reach the wall not that I've ever used it for this reason though ?

I don't do loads of domestic carpet these days, but i pretty much always powerstretch. I did a 4 x 4 bedroom and a 6.5 x 5 lounge today and they were both as flat as a pancake after stretching, and all done with no effort, sweating or sore knees!
Don't know why so few fitters use them apart from the price - perhaps they think it will take loads longer so they'll earn less money?

I use power stretcher a lot even on rooms less than 5mtrs specially on action backed and woven backed carpets

Well, it does take longer, my main reason is the damage it can cause to poorly fitted skirtings, and the shrinkage if the customer takes the carpet up a couple of years later to decorate/put speaker cables under, then doesnt call you back for 2 months, by which time time the carpets shrunk, and is by now to brittle to be able to power-stretch back

I would consider using one if I'd ever seen one or knew how to use one

Did you know that all action back carpets no matter what size should be power stretched? According to the manufacturer of the backing that is . They been American might make more sense of why they power stretch everything.

Hi all, I bought a power stretcher at the end of last year and gave it a try. All I can say is there very good and you won't believe how much more tension you can get on a carpet. You practically have to use the stretcher again to get it off the gripper, tight as a drum! To prevent any damage to walls you can use a 2*4 plank of wood about 4foot in length to spread the load on the walls, if needs be.
