A few weeks ago I took a gamble on this to sand off the top of my screeds.....using 60 grit it works a treat. A little bonus is it leaves it so smooth about a third less adhesive is needed. I've also been using it to sand the feather screed on my ply joints and it takes the raised edges off the ply. If you have chipboard to ply over and the joints are slightly swollen up it sands them down no probs Really chuffed with it. http://www.transtools.co.uk/vitrex-...-240v?filter_name=sander&filter_category_id=8
Looks good would you say 60 grit is course enough I have just bought a smaller handheld version need to get the sandpaper discs now wasn't too sure what grit to go for though
A company i used to work with used a makita belt sander with 40 grit. But this new company im with dont. They said they feel it can wear th ply down, delaminate it etc. Never thought about that before but i think its far better just giving it a few skim coats and using even a worn down glue spreader and going over the feather once its dry. Dont see a problem using it over screed. Its just the mess it can cause with dust aswell.
Ive got these two: http://www.axminster.co.uk/makita-9911-belt-sander-prod19574/ http://www.axminster.co.uk/makita-9404-belt-sander-prod22644/ And ive got my buffer with various grit discs. Ive got a 120+ one room ply job to do starting weds for lvts, gonna be using the buffer with 80grit discs to go over the skim/ply etc 1, 2 job done lol
40grit can be harsh depending on quality of the ply. And i always have the sanders connected to my extractor for dust free usage!
How's the metabo hoover holding up - stll working well, any loss of suction with screed / concrete dust?
none mate, it's a top machine. unreal the amount of dust it picks up. I got a pack of fleeced bags that apparently don't lose any suction the fuller they get. obviously I empty it everytime I've fin using it. but I'm impressed none the less. it's the only sub £300 machine I could find that does the fine dust category.
