I'd want to see certificates myself if they saying they are etc. it's easy to say I'm certified in ........ I never use staples at all, it's either screws or ring nails with compressor. and I'm karndean trained lol
Changing the fitter is easier said than done we have paid a deposit to the flooring firm, or do you mean for them to change their fitter?
Use the same firm but diff fitter as cool said ask for certificate most of us carry certs for what we do
The staple doesn't look like a divergent staple, it look like one out of an electric stapler! You don't have to cut out the door frames, my mate templates round door frames and he gets it spot on.
I don't cut out frames I template or mark out. Im a screw man for ply too. It takes time but that's what a labourer is for!
Glenn do you have any close up pics of your work around architraves, door strips between 2 different types of flooring, want to see what a high standard of work should look like
Nothing wrong with cutting round the shape of the architraves if its neat but very time consuming ? A nice slice out the bottom is a hell of a lot quicker & neater everytime imo
Hold on lads, the installer might be a very high quality installer ? Some of you are raising issues (that might be issues) but technically might not be wrong. As you are worried here is a few points for you to discuss with your installer (which we should all note he has not started to install yet so might be coming back tomorrow to address issues) squeaks , no there shouldn't be any after a brand new prep, however you should expect the odd one through the seasons (winter, summer etc) If you have squeaks now then they need sorting now. They could be caused by you existing sub-floor? are they new to this install? Staples / Fixings . Staples CAN be used and are recommended by manufactures. However they are renown for squeaks depending on what gauge staple was used. Best practice is to use screws or ring shanks. WE DO NOT know what gauge staple he has used tho, might be a heavy gauge and fine. Skim coat (the filler over the joints), a good installer will use skim coat. Your installer has used it so not a novice. Pictures do show a poor application but this DOES NOT MEAN he wont sand the skim coat and get a very good finish. He might of been in a hurry to leave (doctors appointment maybe?, kids to pick up? and decided to load it up and spend more time tomorrow sanding. Just because the finish is not perfect at moment does not mean it wont be when sanded. (if he don't sand tomorrow then be worried) Archives, there is no rules to undercut them. Again its classed as good practice, but for all we know there could be wires behind them? old paint he dont want to chip etc. Just because he has not undercut does not mean he wont get a good finish still.
I'm sorry but were knocking a fitter who A. hasn't finished the job yet and B. Who everyone's judging. Stapling ply Was recommended until recently and you can't tell what type of staple it is from a picture divergent or not. Also What is wrong with feathering the joints? Yes you rub them down as you won't get it spot on. I'm sorry but a lot of Things come from this forum IE. Ring shanks nails, flex over ply, 9 mmply all the time but not every fitter sees This forum so does it the way they always have.
I would just mention there is a few squeaks that your not happy with. See what they say. To be fair he might put some ring nails or screws in tomorrow. He might under cut the arcs after the ply which is what I do a lot as my mate does most of the prep for me. If your not happy at the end of the job you can always refuse to pay. Hassle but if its not a good job an you have paid then its harder to get them back.
These are the staples that we used Will ask him in the morning about some of the issues raised, should I ask him if he is an approved karndean installer as we were told that they would be
Is divergent staples ok? Or should he also screw down as well Edit they are divergent 18mm staples, placed approx 7-10 inches apart
