hi lads and ladettes just looking for a bit of advice and a few ideas. a school want me to offer some options on their main hall, its a granwood floor and they want a vinyl. any ideas on preparation and which vinyls may suit? its the schools main hall and gets used a tremendous amount so has to be bombproof.
I did a couple of these in the summer. First one was altro express-lay and second one was mapei sheet dpm with polysafe.
How about marmoleum tiles. Loads of options, look quality, natural product, 2 tile sizes available, you can polish them, they are the same money as an middle karndean and in my opinion a far greater product. Nobody seems to consider them.
I had a similar enquiry a while ago and to put it simply, you can't cover Granwood with vinyl!! The Granwood has linseed oil in it , so your screed or adhesive won't stick, also in a lot of Granwood installations , it doesn't have a DPM because it allows moisture to pass through it . It has to be ripped up and a DPM installed !! Phil
And It's not cheap stuff either, has to be installed by Granwood themselves although you can do repairs on them but only a small amount and you have to tell them where it's being repaired too.
i'm now wondering if altro xpresslay may be the answer as it would reduce the cost considerably than if i had to rip up the granwood.
