I measured a job. 7 floors, each floor has a 23m and 21 m section then 2 separate 7m sections split by lvt. The carpet is scala. I've recommended double stick or stick direct, due to length of halls, backing of the carpet, not wanting joins every 4m but They want traditional fit with felt and widths side by side. If I have to do it their way then what's the best way to do the joins considering scala is gel back.

If they insist on gel back on felt underlay and won't budge, then you need to walk away.

    agree with above
If you cant budge on the scala then you have to tell them its stick to floor only, no underfelt etc
    Or better walking away

You have to wonder where the client got the idea in the first place? Have you considered asking them why they have specified the product without knowing its limitations. They might just realise "hang on, this guy knows his sh*t" and be more willing to listen to your advice.

@ jambo. many times when iinterior designers or surveyors are involved then things like this can happen. They don't really know flooring so they suggest things like this. Once I've forwarded the fitting spec from lano they will see what I suggested was correct.

Bearing in mind the size of the area I defo would not, gel back should go direct to sub floor ( joins will be fine if fully stuck)
on underlay the joins would be s#### ....... and also you would have no come back on the manufacture /supplier

They got me to price on what I thought and the lano spec says stick direct as well so all sorted. Just got to wait and see on the quote.

For the bigger contractors, How are prices at the moment? Very tight?

    Getting better I think.
They hit the bottom, and now are back on the up.

After today I doubt I'll be using sts. The driver wouldn't put 3 cuts in my unit. The biggest was 4,70. I thought he was joking when he said its not that simple. Jhs deliver full rolls, cormar rolls, brockway rolls, headlam rolls, all very helpful drivers who do all they can but this guy said he can't do it. I'm not saying its his fault because he said its their policy. He said he can handle the 1.50x4m though so that's something.:D
