Hi guys, had a bit of trouble with a carpet called chilthern by furlongs, my customer has a big hall 5m x 3m fitted h/s/l about 5 months back, ripples appeard in the hall, caused by the backing coming away, replaced at my own cost as its a roll stock range and had no problems with previous cuts taken from the roll, Same hapend again after just one week. spoke to furlongs and they agreed credit but not fitting cost and this time i replaced the full H S L as it was from a different roll, 2 weeks later ( today ) customer says its hapend a third time, Has anyone had this before, can local conditions cause this... Thanks in advance
no wheelchair not even that heavy use, 2 adults 1 teenager, subfloor asphelt,, underlay and grippers all fitted correct, underlay is a carpinters 10mm pu, the carpet back is hessien, ripples are more circular ( not all over just the odd 1 or 2 ),
is the asphalt solid? could it be damp causing the delamination? probably a long shot but might be a possibility.
Circular? Have they got pets? Could be them cleaning up pet mishaps and the fluid / chemical is causing the adhesive on the secondary back to break down. Get yourself a black light (uv torch). It will show up all sorts
If it was cormar I'd say yes it falls apart all the time but haven't really heard of it with furlongs. So the backing is fine when you fit it, then it falls apart?
ive had this problem before it looks as though a towel has been thrown on the floor, it turned out to be where the dog bowl sat and it were consistently wet, are they cleaning the carpet quite a lot and is the carpet action back? my guess is that its moisture especially if keeps happening.
It's definitely something being dropped/spilled/or other on there. If you have a wet vac and the old carpet, put some warmish water on it and suck it up while rubbing it with the vac, if it foams up white they have used vanish or 1001 on it..
I use to fit loads of furlongs for a shop and the backing was always delaminating. Sent a few bedrooms and lounges back too as there were lines in the pile. And it's never 4m wide
More and likely under 3.96cm which means it doesn't meet regulations are can be sold cheap......a certain wholesaler does it with some condor ranges.!!
MJFL, I Have the last piece in the shop, i have bin busy but will dig out and post a pic tomorow..... last time i spoke to the bloke i told him i would replace a 3rd time but if you guys think its down to the customers ill tell him to sod off.
naa m8, he popped his head in to tell me when i had 2 sets of customers at my desk , Had to put the charm on and tell him to pop in with his wife and i would sort, He`s not bin back yet so will post pics tmora see what you guys think
