I was at a job last night and the 'handy man' doing the bathroom asked me if I would mind finishing off the door way where he had fitted some vinyl because he was scared he would mess it up, and when I walked in I saw this!
and... I don't do laminate of wood myself but here's a few pics of what he did downstairs for those of you that do!
Not a clue judging by all the bumps round the toilet I think it was one of the first things to go down and everything else went on top, and he still managed to cut it short
Mess up by the door is he having a laugh?? I'd of hit him with the truth and said you finish it mate you can't make it look any worse
Oh my F'in word! so the handy man doing the bathroom obviously f'd up, did they let him loose on the laminate as well? did they take you up on the offer? what exactly was you doing there anyway lol
Their getting in touch about it next week, I think the laminate was the first thing he did and then they let him lose in the bathroom, more fool them I suppose!
So did this guy do all the bathroom, tiling and refitting the sanitoryware ? If so he had a blank room, and he still fecked it up. And the tilings not great either, but sure the handymans friend will save him, comes in a tube and any colour you like as long as its white?
I don't think people deserve it. They don't always know the difference till its pointed out especially if they are the sort of people who don't work with their hands. They've clearly had the wool pulled over their eyes. Just cause people are called handy men doesn't always mean they are not good at different things like laying laminate. I'm not a tiler but at my last house i did my bathroom. I took my time and got good results.
I disagree. There's no way this handyman was employed by the customer by recommendation, so it was probably based on price, and they went for the cheapest, not a wise decision. Yellow pages is full of "handy" men, but they are on a different page to where you will find the floorlayers, so customer knew they weren't getting a specialist. I'd have thought the customer would think twice about getting him to do the vinyl after seeing the state of the laminate, unless he did it all in one hit. There's a saying...."buy cheap, buy twice".
The sad thing is he probably was employed in recommendation! I've seen loads of them...the customers all think they are great and they get sweet talked by them.
LVT on the wall that is, I did my bathroom and toilet and got it as good as my builder mate could do his, and he tiles quite regularly, mine wouldnt touch a good tilers though.
