I'm just ranting here but my god I'm absolutely pi$$ed off with everything at the moment! Is it a full moon or something but nobody seems to be able to talk to you like a human, you do the impossible and not even a thanks just now can you do this! For example yesterday myself and a colleague fitted 150m2 of polysafe flat lay, all welded etc in three areas, now don't get me wrong I'm the fool there and I know it but just a cheers would of helped me feel better about today. Yes now we are into today, I screed a kitchen out, then go and fit a wetroom that looks like it was prepped by blind man, lumps, bumps and even off cuts of copper pipe in the screed finally have it ok'ish and I'm being told I have to work late to make up for the fact I have a dentist appointment tomorrow, the same dentist appointment that I was told three weeks ago to not worry about when I offered to take a days holiday for it!! Grrrrrr I'm maybe being sensitive but it's a lot of take with very little give lately, oh and all this on top of being TOLD I'm working down in London soon, I took this job to avoid working away! Time to get the feelers out there me thinks! Anyway rant over and I hope everyone else is having a good time!
Thats why I love being a subby! ...and I hate working in London. Had to do a 2hr xpress lay in a toilet down there couple months ago, before I even got my tools out the van it cost me £18 in parking plus the congestion charge of £12 I had to pay the night before online. I left out at 6am and on the way down I hit traffic on the motorway then off at junction 2 to another 2hrs delay but luckily when I reached my point I just made it in time for the '20 minute limit' unloading zone time ....then had to park 1 mile away, walk back to job to realise I forgot to take a bag of A45 off - aarrggghhh!!!
Similar thing left at 4am, loaded got to site "triple parked" top floor mate and park up and get tube in... Lol see you later, got back home at 6pm ish straight down pub and didn't leave pub 'till 1am... opcorn
I've been there mate. I was cards in then went subying for 7 years . Now I have a small company with a couple of men . I would never dream of not being thankful to people who work for me. Totally unacceptable. Some companies think they own the employees. I still have plenty of friends who I keep in touch with who are subying and one works for a large firm shall we say, the way they treat him is crazy. Doesn't even now where there working until Monday morning. Could be Scotland or lands end
Its a nightmare everywhere at the moment...I've got shot loads to do at one job half (400 m2) of which wasn't even meant to start untill mid September now it's all got to be done by the 12th? I've taken Saturday morning off to take my son to his first football training session which leads to can you get more people on site and get done by Monday? There's trades everywhere, towers set up in areas we need to screed, crap in every room and then they add 27 nosings and a landing stairs? Feck off.
Yeah I used to sub until a few years ago when I was made an offer that equated to quite a good package, free use of the van, a decent wage and the ability to take the big jobs on price. Well the van is tracked so I never use it as I feel its wrong, the wage is good but for whats expected its to low and the price work... Well that was good until the boss saw what I can do and guess what, that's now the standard. I don't mind the work load to an extent but I'm really starting to resent the lack of thanks and working away... This is the big reason I took the job as its mainly a local work firm but the expectation that I'll go, if I wanted working away I could pick up the phone and get it off a very good firm that I really get on well with but its just not what I want! Oh well I will hopefully be sorting it all soon
I'm in exactly the same boat as you mate had my son last year so wanted to knock working away on the head as much as I could. A firm I used to work for rang me asked if I wanted to go on the books, nice steady wage all that bulls***t. Anyway 9months down the road I'm a lot worse of money wise and working every weekend to bump my wages up means me seeing my son a few hours a week a joke. But what really winds me up is the blokes that have upset them in the past are the best looked after and earn all the cash. And when you do pull them up about it they give a loads of speel which I know is cr*p so I'm at my wits end too.
Well dragging this up from the past. I only went and moved on, they didn't take it to well but its the best thing I've done! I may have mentioned in another thread that in had been having swelling on my knee, well actually internal bleeding! So I got in touch with the trusted firm I mentioned in my original post and they only went and offered me a job as a project manager... I'm a month in and still learning loads about the side us fitters rarely see but enjoying it. So glad I had that rant as it made me think about my future and how I should be treated. Time to start setting jobs up as fair as I can!
Good for you!! Great to hear when someone that knows the job gets the job. Makes a change from some young buck that read about it college and then thinks they know all about it.
