Hi, does anyone know what is the real name of the carpet which Carpetright sell as Kingswood Aubergine Stripe? http://www.carpetright.co.uk/kingswood-aubergine-stripe-carpets-2.html Also, they sell it as suitable for use on stairs - would you agree? Thanks in advance!
Palm beech by Condor Carpets I think. I would advise against use on stairs,It will flatten quickly and the lines will distort within weeks. Just about ok for rooms with light ware if you're on a budget.
Thanks a lot - even though some of it wasn't really what I was hoping to hear So what should I be looking in a carpet to tell whether it going to be suitable for stairs? I was also advised that this one http://www.scs.co.uk/nobility-stripe/L018375.html isn't great for stairs either - yet they are both sold as suitable for stairs
Yes Nobilty stripe is about the same as the palm beach, Gala Stripe is very hard wearing and cheap, it is a corded carpet so may feel a bit rough for you? although being corded the stripes don't distort too much. Or Lano Fairfield stripe is a reasonably hard wearing twist for the money, but the stripes will go out of true fairly quickly, which would bug me, but it doesn't seem to concern most of my clients. I saw your other thread about u/lay as well, Floorwise Tread is a decent PU. and should be quite a bit cheaper than the Cloud Nine.
Just my opinion..... but a good place to start is anywhere other than SCS or Carpetright ;-) Any carpets I've looked at in SCS are VASTLY overpriced then alledgedly reduced to a price thats usually still overpriced. Maybe try an independant retailer that knows what they're talking about and will advise you on the right product for your stairs rather than sell you a product that satisfies a sales target.
We aren't intending actually buying from SCS or Carpetright - but working full time it can be difficult to actually get to the independent carpet shops when they are open - at least the big shops are open in the evenings and on Sundays. We're lucky that we have several carpet shops in our small town so we started with them and we've already been to the main ones - but sadly none of them have so far worked out. One was far too expensive for us (aimed at the top end of the market), another had a good range and prices were reasonable but they only seem to have a part time guy in on a Saturday and he isn't much help. We were going to go with the 3rd one - but apparently they also work for the developer who is building our house and have a stupid exclusivity clause which means they can't do business with us. So we have inevitably resorted to looking online - we will be having a local fitter source and fit the carpets (and everything else) for us though. When we started looking at carpets it was really exciting, but its actually turned out to be a bit of a nightmare and I'm starting to think that we should have gone for the boring overpriced carpets offered by the developer - at least then we'll actually have carpets by the time we move in.
I had been focusing on twist carpets because hubby would quite like a cat at some point and I've read that that animal claws and loop carpets aren't a good combination. However, seems like stripes in a twist are probably all going to have the same problem with the lines blurring (makes sense really when you think about it), and I don't really want a cat, so..... New shortlist: At around £19 psm its a bit more expensive but is still affordable: http://www.bigfloorstoreuk.com/cheltenham-stripe-aubergine I've kept away from 100% wool so far as I thought I'd be out of budget, but this seems pretty reasonable actually. Also found this one which seems far too cheap: http://www.onlinecarpets.co.uk/carpets/style/striped-carpets/mauve-milan-loop-striped-carpet.html whilst we're on a pretty tight budget, I don't want something that I'm going to have to replace in a few years because its looking bad. As you can probably tell....we want something quite bold - the hallway is going be black floor and white walls so the stairs carpet has to inject some colour and interest.
The Cheltenham looks like a good carpet but the Milan is really naff, it won't last many years. Looks like it's the cat or the carpet because cats will pull those apart!!
Thanks, you've confirmed what I was thinking about the Milan. I really don't want a cat...the longer I can put it off the better
Where are you based? Fair chance someone on here will be close to you and then you'll get proper advice twinned with a proper installation
