Done a few. I normally take the underlay just over the nose then staple underneath. I use my hand and a bolster to get a nice crease. Only have gripper on the treads, glue the risers.

If the carpets stiff I warm it up to soften it

Ok, I,m on the same wavelength as you guys then. The two or three times I've done them I've grippered the tread only and cut the underlay off flush with the nose. Have none of you guys used a stair claw then? I saw it on RWS alloys and I was thinking of getting one.

You've got to love early Fridays.

Pin under the nosing and then stretch into the gripper. Should get it as flat as any stair claw.
