I currently work 2 days a week for my dad and uncle, poor wages, fed up of working there to be honest. I've asked to be given more responsibility (and money) but it's like banging my head against a brick wall. The outcome of a recent convo was that if I go back to working 5 days then I'd get more money but I've not yet been told how much. Ive also been working on trying to get my own name out there, Facebook, soon to be website etc and I've been doing some sunny work for a commercial company. So basically do I stay with my dad's company and be unsure if I'll actually get more money or the responsibility I want or subby for the other company 3 days a week maybe more and push my own name and hopefully start doing a lot more for myself
Just do what you have to do Keep putting your name out there & more & more of your own work will come ! Also be better than ever one else & know your ****
Nat . sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go for it. Subbing for the other company if you have the skill and confidence can pay dividends as you will make contacts outside your "family circle", could lead to you picking up work of your own. If you stay with your dad and uncle you have to ask firstly can the really afford to pay the wage you want, it will after all be a 3 way split instead of the 2way. Maybe its time to spread your wings and take the leap. Never know maybe if you get successful you could have your dad and uncle subbing to you.
Yes mate I have was a while ago never did anything about it and just ended up more and more annoyed and fed up
Time to move on if nothing is resolved from last time. Try an leave the door open to do some subby work though.
Move got the skill and confidence and I've done a few days already subbing, it's mostly new builds carpet and vinyl. The main thing which is my priority ATM is money and I can earn my monthly wage from my dad in 2 days subbing
You mean for my dad ? Bit a chance I mentioned abit ago me going self employed and subbing to him and the answer was no because is be earning more then him
I think you know your answer then mate. Be lots of subby work leading up to xmas as well. You'll be able to build on your own too.
mate get a website set up for free plenty out there. Free advertising on the net yell.com etc but stay with your dad for now for the income. I had no choice but to set up on my own during the credit crunch then into the recession it was tight money wise but I've got in with a few fit out companies built on my website and this year has been the best so far with about 2 quiet weeks. But you need to put the advertising out there to get noticed.
