Sit on skirting a

Last year we laid so 100 sit on skirtings to some blocks of flats. The first few we used contact but the smell was too much so we moved onto Jantac tape as recommended by another fitter but also got the advise from a wholesaler who said this was the correct thing to use. . I've been back for a 6 month check, something thy wanted me to do and most of the sit ons have bowed and are coming off. The tape is stuck to the sit on but coming off the wall. Has anyone had this problem with the tape? I've just been away for a few dyays and where we stayed they had the same problem in the toilets and it was the tape.

Any suggestions?

Always best to spray adhesive or prime the walls with the Jantac tape.

 

Problem is the walls. I bet if they were free from old adhesive and paint they would stand a better chance

 

Did you put spray adhesive on the walls first?

 

I sprayed adhesive as the walls were quite dry but it hasn't worked. Merit helped with the blocks we did contact and tape but neither have worked great.

 

And there are 16 blocks!!!! That they want me to sort themout.

 

You know the job in question! The job looks good apart from this issue, which is a big issue

 

It's the walls mate...I had to fill some of the external corners with flexi as they were completely missing! Flakey.

 

ive been fitting some rubber skirting and they told me not to use contact adhesive because after a while the rubber reacts with the contact and pops off, and its true as ive had to go round another teams job replacing the skirting. i use spray adhesive with contact tape on most jobs always have to use the spray first though.

 

Ive never had issues with the contact adhesive but have with the double sided tape, we got shrinkage after few months!

 

Any clues?

 

That's what it looks like. Gaps have opened up which we left fitted tight

 

Sorry to hear of your agro. I gave up with the tape, because of these problems.
I went back to F61.
Has it all shrunk ? or just flapping ?

 

I can't work out exactly what's happened but lengths which were fitted tight to each other have gaps of 5mm. The mitred corners have opened up and it's jus not staying on. It's a disaster really. Each block took me 1 day!

 

These were fitted oct last year to march this year. It wasn't warm, maybe we had a few nice days but we had lots of cold and rain when we were there. Is there anything that I can complain about to the manufacturers? If not and I have to replace them. What can't do to make sure the actually stay on? Thanks

 

Have the first blocks shrunk that was fitted with f60?

 

Not as bad. A few bits that don't seem so tight but generally ok, whereas the blocks with tape are literally 80% hanging off. You can see its bowed, you run your hand along it and you can hear it trying to grip the wall again. Really could do without going back to do this again. If the tape has failed when it shouldn't then I want something from them but I'm sure they will say I didn't do something right. Prime the wall, conditions too hot or cold, wall too dry

 

I think they will blame the walls. Worth a try tho?
