I have been given some 6.5mm rubbish laminate for the back bedroom (although it's only enough to cover about half of the room) that I'm using as a photo studio. I was going to lay it for purely functional reasons (hard surface so the photo back drop can be walked on without ripping - which would be the case on the currently carpeted floor). However, I was wondering if it would actually be cheaper if I sanded the floorboards back, then filled and oiled the floor? I'm sure it would look better but would the difference in cost be huge? How difficult is it to do as a DIY job for someone with relatively little experience?
personally I wouldn't attempt sanding & sealing Even in my own house! lol Ive seen 'attempts' And its like everything else, a pro will always do a better job
Very hard work without pro tools and you run the risk of damaging the floorboards! Sounds like a nice job for a sanding pro....unless the floorboards are black

Alright Davey. I know a fella who does sanding etc. Lives North Wales. But if go the laminate route. Can get you some decent laminate mate called loc v4. Looks great and price is good.
Personally I think hardwood looks much better than laminate. But price wise Laminate would be the cheaper and the maintenance cost is also low.
