Blending high concrete floor to wood floorboards. HELP!

Absolute nightmare. hi guys the wife has decided she wants wood floor for our new kitchen arrival, came accross a problem hopfully someone can help. Kitchen been extended in the past and were it meets the old floor there's a drop of 1inch, the drop only runs halfway accross the room. Can't believe someone thought this was exeptable. Thought about tapering it of with cement. Would appreciate some knowledge on the matter. Cheers Carl

If it's an inch out you will need to ply it up by using 24mm ply, if the concrete slope is on the floorboard chip it up first.

 

Hi thanks for reply, the high side near the wall is 1 inch then tapers flat'ish in the middle of the room. Would this still work as there then would be 25mm step were it's flat. Thanks regards Carl

 

Ok think I get what your saying, if your saying that it runs out by an inch from the centre of room to the far edge then I'd get a floorlayer out to sort it out, your talking various thicknesses of ply then fibre compound plus more than likely smoothing off the concrete half too to get it level enough for a wooden floor, thing that makes me wonder is why builders don't go for the same subfloor when extending? If it's a wood base use tongue and groove chipboard, if it's a Crete slab than screed, be easier to get the levels right then for them.

 

Sounds a nightmare lol. So it needs to be diffrent thicknesses everywere gradually building it up to its near on level. It would be hard to make it not to high near the door to living room aswel behind were I have taken the photo. Sounds fun anyway. Would it be possible to pva the wood floor and gradually level using cement? Thanks for your help much appreciated. Carl

 

To be blunt no, if it were me I'd be plying up in stages giving it an almost step like structure with 6mm ply till its close, then I'd fibre screed over the whole lot plus screed the concrete section, not particuly cheap or a diy job but would be fit for purpose ifdone properly

 

Doesn't need to be level - needs to be flat. I'd do the same as pf

 

Thanks guy. Iam in skipton North Yorkshire if anyone's close doubt it tho lol. This is gona turn out to be a fair involved job after all, take it the cement idea wont be ideal. Liking the 6mm board built up just the problem of doorways to consider.

 

It will fail pretty quickly, then your back to square one again, doing it properly first time round is always the best bet.
