We have opted for Brintons Bell Twist Wilton carpet for the stairs / landing and bedrooms. The carpet fitter has recommended Treadmore System 10 for the stairs but, we would like a more luxury feel in the bedroom.

What would you recommend? (we can go up to 10mm depth) I am considering Cloud 9 Super Contract. Are there any other suitable options ?

10mm to thick, will lift of grippers and loose tension which will wear quicker. Unless your installer raises the gripper height ? Be prepared to pay more for raising gripper. Its a lot more work.

Yeah C9 super contract is far to think for grips you'd be better off with C9 contract still a bit thick but same gear

Might be wrong but I'm sure I read you shouldn't use a PU with a woven carpet?

    Can any1 confirm this?

    Id stick to crumb personally.

Does anyone use wool felt anymore? I prefer it to pu if I'm honest! Just horrible to fit!!

Would still use axi felt occasionally, still call it foamalux. Last time I used what you would call woolfelt was for cpt/rite about 3 years ago, it stank to high heaven, real chemical smell. Think the only reason the stopped it was because of customer complaints.

Brintons recommend crumb rubber/felt for their carpets.

Thick, softer foam with holes, egg box or waffle type backings and lightweight felts are not recommended.

Yes they do their own but I always thought they advised firmer underlays.

And how thick is Brinfelt? 10mm? Also Axfelt is much too thick. Both good underlays tho

If stitched (joins) at factory then yes it should be felt only. As for PU's, hardly any carpet manufacturers are keen on them apart from the more dense contract versions. Duralay 650 , felt , combi felt are the preferred underlay by most manufacturers, however PU's are preferred by the consumer due to soft and preferred by the installer as lighter and easier to work with.

One of the reasons I no longer do work for them. Thin felt back on stairs with 11 mm pu ulay, gripper sticking through, and beliving 4 sq MTS will cover a full set of stairs.
