amtico linear chalk

Im starting a job for a customer next week in the amtico linear chalk signature range. They are a 12 x 12 till and is covering a wide hallway flowing into the kitchen. She has been on holiday for past couple wks and wont be back till end of the month but having spoken to her I asked her how does she want the tiles laying? Either chequerboard board or straight lay...she told me to go with what I think is best, typical....

So how would you guys do it?
Im swaying towards straight lay.
No matter how many times ive asked she said its up to me as she loves the tile regardless anyway.

 

ask the client. As any way you lay it she won't like and refuse payment.

 

She's already paid her bill because she's on her hols and wont be back till the end of the month and I stressed to her that she needs to choose which way she wants it as I dont want anything thrown back at me but being a 72yr old lady she insists I do it the way I want to because she likes the tile either way...I know, crazy! But without losing my rag with her and giving her an heart attack im going to just do it the way I think looks best and thats straight lay. I shown her half a box in both ways side by side before she went and she just couldnt chose and kept asking me which way would I do it and when I said all going stright she said yes go with that then.

My question here though was which way would you guys do it if it was you because some say it looks better chequer and so e say the other.
Just opinions on layout really!

I would lay 12 x 12 tile square

 

If I had the 18 x 12 tile then I would have gone with the brick effect but with the 12 x12 square tile I dont think it would work right.

 

brickbond, hate straight tile effect even on a 12x12 its bloody boring, doesnt take any longer to fit staggered imho either.

As its not my floor id get her to put in writing to let you decide, an email will suffice atleast you have something to use if it ever went to court.

 

Myself I'd go brickbond, something other than 'plain old.....'
Why have Amtico etc to make it look like a sheet vinyl effect?
Get borders in there!!! Lol
All Lvt should be truly bespoke to show off true potential of the product imo

 

I did suggest a border but she said she doesnt like it
Can see what you are saying with the 'sheet vinyl' look and the more I look at the tiles now the more im swaying to brickbond as the bevel edge stands out more. These tiles cost a bomb and I was trying to throw her alternatives but its the actual design line of the tile she loved and I couldnt find anything close enough to it.

@ Spacey - now you just love your work waaay too much ha....it should be 'more time in the custom' than 'more time on the deck'!

 

Cut them in half and re-bevel for true brick bond look. Lol

 

Assuming seeing as it's paid for that introducing extra labour into the equation? (on the 45 for example) is out of the question

 

Dunno about you, but I chg more for doing it on the 45 etc with no border as it will take more time. Cutting in.

I like to take my time do it right lol

 

Agreed its not hard, but still time consuming.
Tbh not much should be hard at the level we all seem to be at.
