Going to get my Custom done It's a 125 bhp now & can be remapped to 170bhp with 30% better fuel efficiency
my van is the lwb 350 140 6 speed, before remap it were doing 32-34 average now it does anything from 36 to 40mpg, normal around town driving 38mpg, but its faster our engine is the older 2.4ltr ,i think them customs are 2.2?
remap it when warrenty runs out spacey, if ford plug it in which they do everytime they have the van in they look for updates which will wipe the map, plus the warrenty is fooked
yep, if there is a update they will upload the new map to ecu at dealer. However its very very rare they will do this unless your reporting a problem with how its driving etc. So for example it might hesitate at 40mph at 2000rpm for instance. If you was to report something like this they will plug into the ecu and check which verstion it is or normally just upload the latest map the dealer has (if there is any updates) that will simply over write the "modified map" you have paid for. Like i say tho, very very rare they would even plug into the ecu as it takes around 30 mins for it to download / upload a map . Also i dought anyone working at a main dealer would have the skills etc to read a map and see some figurers have been changed. It would be very hard to spot and would require another map to compare to. Again, they would never do this. All my vehicles have been remapped and all go into main dealers for services etc. My quashqui developed a fault the other week which involved them plugging into ecu and trying to make the fault come up. They had it for 2 days trying all different types of things until they found the fault (damaged wire in the ecu harness ! ). They never found out it was mapped and that thing has had its balls rung big time, way past any update map you will get off most people as all generic and slight changes of logging. The map in quashqui was done by the people who write teh maps for my race cars that start with a blank ecu and spend 2 days on dyno writting them. The type of 'mapping' that the dealers find are when the ecu has been soldered etc, so on some golfs, audi etc they have to solder direct to ecu board so they can change the map.
@ spacey - you get 50's on motorway driving in your custom? Your the first and very lucky if you do, load of us custom owners are struggling to get mid 40's! what do you get out of a full tank? I can squeeze about 670mls if im gentle and mostly motorway. As for the remap, im still waiting to get mine done. Know a couple who have had theirs done and though the mpg is more or less the same, the low down torque is stacks better, night and day. Thats the only moan ive got about mine, not as responsive low down as other vans ive driven. Martin (vantuner) knows his **** and im sure someone who had theirs mapped said that martin will rewrite the map if it does get wiped by ford for a small fee. Some customs are running real poor mpg but what these people have to realise is the engine is still fresh and needs breaking in. I noticed improvments when id done several thousand in mine, still feels like its getting a bit better midrange, just the low revs is where it lacks. Remaps are a must imo, brings out the true potential of how it should have been leaving the factory. All my cars have been remapped in the past. The RS4 was custom map'd and worth every penny of the £550
I've never fill the tank tbo Just half fill to save on the weight Agree bottom end is poor That's the main reason to get the remap
Defo a remap for me soon too. does your MPG actually read 50+ on your screen? Or you working it out the 'working it out' way? At one point mine went down to 26mpg when running round local but been doing the daily trip to Aldridge for the last 5 wks and its gone back to 36ish now. I resetted the whole lot before I start the aldridge job
It says around 50 when at a constant speed on the motorway unless I go up a steep hill The actual mpg was 29. something last time i looked Havent done much motorway driving but I did a 2 hour round trip on the a1 last week & didnt seam to use much fuel at all. I was very impressed
they are brill on fuel on the long runs, you'll see. One of my sparkys I use has just got himself a new vito sport...23mpg he's getting lol lead foot
Reprogram the vehicle ecu ( engine control unit). The vehicle engine management system. Modern vehicles because of the have fuel injection ( mostly common rail ) the ecu controls the opening and closing of these therefore pushing the amount of fuel into the cylinders. Its a little more complicated that that but that's the basic principle.
