Hi, looking for advice. Would like to lay a solid oak chevron floor over chipboard flooring. The floor needs leveling and was wondering the best way to do this as the new flooring will be glued to it. Was thinking if I could prime the chipboard and use a self leveling compound to level the floor, but would this prove strong enough for a solid floor glued to it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Ply first then flexable levelling compound

Make sure the chipboard is fixed and not floating

    Chipboard should be screwed down

as merit says ply and fibre screed, cant screed over chipboard, id recommend getting a pro in to sort it for you.

Would 3.6mm exterior grade ply screwed down be sufficient? Could anyone recommend a suitable self leveling compound to buy?

3.6 wouldn't be enough and using screws on it then smoothing compound would probably pull the screws through
I'm not sure what the minimum is you should use as I don't do real wood but I would say 6 or 9 possibly ok and make sure it's a decent grade ply like sp101

12/18mm ply screwed down depending on how un even the boards are your going over, secret nail method would be better than glueing it down on ply as with that thickness of ply it should negate needing screed id of thought.
