My lounge has been newly decorated (walls and skirting) before removing laminate flooring to replace with carpet. Unfortunately the skirting boards were fitted over the laminate flooring and now the flooring has been removed there are gaps up to 22mm under skirting. I have carpet ordered so need to reduce the gaps before fitting can take place. What can be done? Many thanks for replies.
Remove the skirts and then refit them down to the floor or you could ply the floor to bring the level up
22mm gap half decent underlay with carpet should cover that enough I'd of thought, otherwise seeing as you have already had it decorated and imagine not wanting to remove skirts, I'd probably just caulk the gap out to be honest
Alternatively cut some mdf or wood to roughly fit the gap. Glue in place then fill and redecorate the skirting. Make sure you use loads of glue otherwise when the carpet is fitted that could work loose
I ripped up old solid t&g bout 3 months ago , put some cloud 9 down plus gripper an carpet . Sorted bout 1 mm gap all round visible .. Get sample from shop of the carpet and underlay and try it round the the edge see if theres any low spots and screed them out
Quarter round beading can be fixed to the skirting board (baseboard) and it gives a nice appearance too.
