Hi I am thinking about having Balterio Tradition Sapphire Imperial Teak Laminate fitted into my kitchen replacing the current tiles that are there. Underneath the current tiles are the original tiles from the kitchen floor from when the house was built in the 50's, these are on top of a concrete floor. What is the best approach to get a separate DPC, then underlay then the laminate or would an underlay with a built in DPC be ok? What are the best quality underlays for underneath a Balterio laminate floor and the same for a DPC? Also is the Balterio Tradition Sapphire Imperial Teak Laminate ok for a kitchen environment?
Best approach is to put a vinyl tile or sheet vinyl in a kitchen, nobody would recommend a laminate in a wet area.
Best thing to do is take the, tiles up. Clean as much adhesive off as possible Screed the floor with Ardex NA Then a coat of Ardex DPM1c epoxy moisture suppressant Then a good underlay like timbermate S3 Then the laminate. That way if you have any moisture rising you won't have any problems in the future
As Daz says but ensure the old tiles are down sound from 1950, they are more than likely laid direct to earth with no Dpm if any sort we have come across these before, and would recommend topping the Ardex dpm1c with a coat of n/a as per a sandwich Dpm system
Hi All Thanks for the replies and the advice, the brickwork has a DPC but I most probably would agree that the solid floor does not. So is it best to rip up the 1950'/60's tiles as well as the existing tiles on top? Or if the original 50/60's tiles are fine can you just leave them there? I don't really want to screed the floor as I will not be able to do this over the whole floor in the kitchen because there are units etc in the way, so could you recommend a good DPC sheet that we can put down first then the underlay on top of this. You mentioned using timbermate s3 http://www.tradepriced.co.uk/duralay_timbermate_laminate_underlay.html but is this for wood flooring over laminate? other have mentioned tredaire boardwalk http://www.tradepriced.co.uk/tredaire_boardwalk_laminate_hardwood_underlay_underlay.html What else is required just the self adhesive sealing tape?
