Hi All I have bought my first place about a year ago and I'm now ready to replace all the carpets. It's only a small 1 bad flat with approximately 32 m2 of carpet space. I've been around a couple of local carpet shops but the variety in carpets is a little overwhelming so I could do with a bit of advice. I'm looking for something that feels nice with a relatively long life span and will clean easily as I tend to spill things quite often . I'm only one person and I have no pets or kids so I don't think it will be particularly heavy traffic? One carpet I've seen that I like is the Cormar Sensation Original as it feels nice but I'm not sure what I'm looking at when it comes to long lasting. I've asked my Dad and he reckons the strands will all collapse and lay on their sides from walking on them because it's not wool. Does anyone have any experience with this carpet that could advise? I've seen a few posts on this site about the backing separating from carpet but all these posts were a few years old. Should I stay away from this carpet? Any help/advice/recommendations would be appreciated. Also I have a desk chair with casters and I don't want to ruin the carpet shortly after I get it so is it worth getting a rug/mat to put under it? Thanks
Cormar sensations is very soft..... Very soft carpets flatten easier and faster than more tougher twist piles..... As for your castor chair it will damage any carpet seen it happen lots of times..... Domestic carpets are not designed for office type furniture so I would recommend a castor chair mat to help the lifespan of your flooring. In regards to stains a wool twist won't clean out as well as a man made fibre but tend to find wool twists wear better depending on the quality, personally if you have been looking at cormar ranges I find primo plus or primo choice good value for money but we sell a lot of lifestyle flooring oakmont atm....... When people ask for a hard wearing carpet I tend to recommend a Berber loop wool mix, we do a lot of new build flats in this and on a good underlay it feels nice. The thick luxury carpets do flatten faster than the Berbers but it more of a personal choice thing. I'm not a fan of thick feel carpets in living areas as they take a lot of hammer ....... Hope this helps
Thanks I will get a castor chair mat now i know they exist. I'm not really after something that's super hard wearing, just something that wont be destroyed as soon an as it's installed. How long would you say a Sensation carpet would last? I don't walk on it a great deal so I'd say it would be similar to a bedroom wear maybe?
its not something I can say unfortunately..... I'd expect a good few years wear from it but it is the sort of carpet that tracks and flattens quickly due to the long fluffy pile.
Hi Rick, if your always spilling things etc, look for a carpet fm abingdon flooring which has there Aqua pro tec fibre, it's a god send when you spill liquids like coffee, water, etc the spillage will sit on the fibre allowing enough time to remove before it sinks into the fibre leaving a stain. Also they are twist piles which tend to keep there appearance longer and wear far better than any thicker pile such as sensations. Check there website.
For anyone who might still need advice, Cool Runners: Carpet and Hallway Runner Specialists is great for providing rugs and carpet runners, which may be a solution your problem. Rather than fit a carpet, these can be great for providing floor protection, etc. Type their name into Google to check out the site and see what you think!
Agreed with Chris. The difference is huge. I had a room with no underlay whatsoever and the carpet felt awkward, and things changed dramatically we applied one. Now, 5 years later, I have happy feet.
