    Hi gents
I have a bitumen floor that has been covered with a floating vinyl laminate in my kitchen/dining area that is now 20 years old. I would like to install Opus Karndean on the bitumen and would like to know what I should do first before gluing the Karndean down.

The bitumen seems smooth and in good shape. I've not had any damp problems, and there are no visible cracks.

    Can you post some pictures.
Could it be mastic Ashpalt ?

Does it have old adhesive on top.

It most cases it will need priming & a smoothing compound

Nope - no adhesive - ever.

The floating 'clip' floor is the original one that was installed when the house was built. bitumin 3.JPG bitumin 4.JPG

    Hope these pics are ok?
(The white sheet is the micro-thin slightly spongy underlay).

Assuming your not trade so I'd go with sugar soap solution for degreasing, prime with flooring grade acrylic primer and latex with Mapei tradeplan, I believe all available from screwfix nowadays

De grease and ardex n/a leveller...... No need to prime and low compressive strength so less chance of popping off the ash felt/ bitumin
